Global gag rule overturned!!

I just got an email from Planned Parenthood! I had heard he was going to overturn Global Gag Rule, but didn't know it was done.

'President Barack Obama has taken an important first step in ushering in a new day for women’s health here in the United States and around the world by overturning the harmful “global gag rule”President Obama has signaled to the rest of the world that the United States will once again be a leader in the fight for equal access to health care and reproductive rights.'

The Global Gag Rule was a prohibition, that dictated that no U.S. family planning assistance funding go to organizations that provided abortion services, offered counseling and referral for abortion care, or advocated legal abortion access in their own countries — even if they did so with their own funds.

This is the first time in eight years we've had an administration do something FOR women. I hope it's the first of many to come.

stay up in arms about the "abortion" issue, this reversal will help countless women (and men) who have had no access to health care, birth control, or other services, because the clinics in their areas were forced to close when Bush took away their funding. Access to birth control, condoms, sex education...is essential in the battle against Aids. Women around the world will have the means to regain control of their lives and to make smart decisions about their families and future. Abortion is only one small, but necessary, benefit.
