A Realtor friend of ours stopped by today ......
She says she's hanging in there. And she says the phones have started ringing off the hook in the last two weeks or so .....

Prices are certainly down, but not nearly as bad as elsewhere ...... and in some neighborhoods they're even going up a little.

This mixed news is among the brightest I've heard in a while.

1. I have good news, the price of Campbell's soup went down yesterday
My FAVORITEST soup,Chunky beef barley, went down 15 cents at Target. I call that a victory. (I hope she is making a living, this is a shitty time for REA's).

:hi:

6. The S.O. brought home several cans of coffee a few weeks ago...
because the sale was just too good to pass up. Being they suspicious type, I grabbed one of the old cans and found they'd cut the size dramatically - as they're doing with many other products - and keeping the prices the same. This practice was (I believe) made famous by Hershey waaaaayyyy back in the day.

Just a thought.

8. Nope, this time the size is the same (They did that at Maxwell House)
My FAVORITEST canned coffee of all time was Maxwell House 1892 blend ONE POUND. It was AMAZING stuff, and then ELIMINATED it.

When I called them they said it was 'TOO COSTLY" to make. So I said FU Maxwell House and never bought a can of their other swill again.

3. Hi Gray Warrior.
Are you in Gorham/Bartlett area? When our kids graduate from college (2 years/fingers crossed) , we're thinking of heading over that way.

4. Hey!
I am presently in the Wakefield NH area about an hour south of North Conway. Gorham is not near Bartlett. gorham is over the mountain on the other side. Where do you want to be?

5. I'd love to move to Gorham
I love the Gorham/Jefferson area, very beautiful. Don't like the smell of the paper mill though!

7. Paper mill is gone.
They shut it down a few years ago. There are NO jobs in Berlin. Gorham is thriving because it got voted the best little sports town in New England by Boston magazine.

Jefferson is my favorite area. I fact, all of route 2 going into Vt is incredible.

9. Sorry to hear about the paper mill, in a way
Driving from Jefferson to Gorham you could smell the paper mill just after cresting Gorham Hill. I stopped at Mr. Pizza in Gorham many times. *Sigh* I know there's not a lot of jobs up there though, which is why I'll likely never make the move. Closest i came was a seasonal trailer in Jefferson, by Israel River. I miss it so much! I used to marvel at the housing prices in Berlin, some of the lowest probably in New England. Houses looked horribly rough though. Isn't there a military base or state police barracks up there? I seemed to remember driving by something of that nature a few years ago - I'll have to look it up.

11. Best jobs are at the Appalachian Mtn club at Pinkham Notch and Bretton Woods
Pay sucks, benefits are great and most staff have been there since forever. The rest of the jobs are Bretton Woods and Mt. Washington resort. All those jobs are a good driving distance from Gorham.

Berlin has serious heroin problems. They have one state prison and are building a fed prison claiming that they are creating jobs for the locals but you need a degree to work at either prison. Very few locals have degrees.

I'd give anything to live there forever, but I can't afford to. If you can make money on the internet, you have it made...yu can just work from home and never have to go out into the extreme harsh weather.

Several years ago, a wind shear went through Israel River area, down route 2 for miles and destoyed a lot of the tress all along the road. Freakiest thing I ever saw. It's still an awesome place tho.

10. I predict the DC area is going to be surging.
I personally know several people who have either already moved there or are in the process of it.
