only one engine and a part of one engine stripped and the plane had been parked for a week in New York!

Egads... what is becoming this generation of mortorized vehicle strippers. Why I can remember riding with my parents down to LI and seeing cars stripped to the frame.;-)

It's great that they're pictures of a happy ending... in terms of innovation and expertise, getting an airplane out of the water would be just as amazing if there had been any fatalities although these pictures would be tinged with sorrow, but since there were hardly even any serious injuries, this is just an impressive demonstration of what people can do, and a reminder of the heroism of that day.

11. The mud on the starboard wing (pic 11 labelled "17/11:44PM") ........

....... would appear to indicates the wing was on the bottom. I wonder if the wing damage (it appears to be broken, not just peeled skin) is from that or the landing.

I am also amazed at the amount of damage the plane sustained (underbelly, engine nacelle) yet still managed to remain afloat long enough for all the people to be rescued safely.

14. The plane probably would have stayed floating longer if one of the passengers had not opened the

rear door and flooded the plane.

15. Looking at the times stamps on the pics and noticing the disappearing light

one can see that this took about 8 hours to accomplish.
After everyone was rescued, the plane was towed to the foot of Manhattan, to the dock by Battery Park City/Financial Center.

... or something? Check into why the experienced flyer texted his wife "goodbye forever, honey" when the same plane on the same route the week before had loud noises emanating out of it 20 minutes into the flight. That's what I heard.

20. That damage may have happened in the water. There were a lot of boats

around the plane. It looked like some of them were right up next to the plane trying to keep the nose up
and the plane afloat after all the people were rescued.
