The cheney/rove contingent did a mighty nice job of it, too. Frankly, I was expecting far more from him on the Plame case, considering his reputation. Patrick Fitzgerald is not the invincible juggernaut he was made out to be.

Now if we had Vincent Bugliosi on the case instead... (at least where it applies to the bushies...)

Trust me, he did everything that could humanely have been done on the Plame case. He was outmaneuvered before he even began because of one very simple reason that wasn't obvious to civilians (I spent a lifetime as a Washington lawyer), and that is that the law he was charged with enforcing is so terribly drafted and so narrowly drawn that it's almost impossible to bring anyone up on its charges.

Not surprisingly, the law was drafted by Victoria Toensing, who is the rightwingnut wife of the rightwingnut Joseph deGenova.

Bugliosi wouldn't have gotten anywhere, believe me. It's a lousy law.

Yeah, point well taken. Still seems to me he was outmaneuvered. That last time when rove was able to huddle with his lawyer because somebody tipped him off - maybe Fitzgerald shouldn't have given him FOUR TIMES to adjust his story. A once-over would have been sufficient. Maybe a second revisit. But I believe it was FOUR times rove was allowed to go back to "fix" his testimony. COMPLETE AND UNDESERVED OVERKILL. I understand about making sure you've given the accused or the suspected a generous opportunity to represent themselves as well as possible so you circumvent the success of any appeals and all that. But did he really deserve being cut that much slack?

which is always the prudent path. Witness how he's screwed it up with Blago by jumping the gun on an indictment before he had his case prepared.

It is always better to let a grand jury hear all the versions of a story from a witness; that way, you're not going to run into any surprises if you go to trial. Rove was just being treated like anyone else, honestly. And if there had been anything that might have been chargeable, believe me, DC grand juries are notorious for their courage in going forth. I've always respected them. A lot.

I know he has been charged with trying to sell the former Senate seat of Barack Obama? But has anyone seen the evidence? I would like to believe that the media and the politicians are correct but they are not beyond throwing anyone under the bus if it serves their purpose. Is it a crime for just being an asshole? How much money has he put into his account since he has been Governor?
