your answer to your own question is inconsequential, you are a reporter.

1. I can't stand to watch that POS.
MTP used to be a Sunday morning ritual in my house. Not any more. Gregory was the worst possible pick to sit in Tim's chair. A total tool...

3. I wish that - just once - a guest would call one of these bobbleheads on their BS
Just stare incredulously at the offending 'host' until all the hot air escapes the piehole, and then say something to the effect, 'please DO continue! You obviously have both sides of this conversation sewed up, so carry on without me!', and then leave.

2. NBC assholes like Tweety and Gregory do the same thing...
they ask a question...then...just as the interviewee begins to respond, they either....RESTATE THE EFFING QUESTION or SUGGEST A POSSIBLE ANSWER...or four. You can see that the 'guest' is taken aback and often does not know what to say or how to say it. They then have to reconnoiter.

WTF?

It's unprofessional....

4. the good news for me
is now I don't even have to turn on NBC's Meet the Press to see if it's going to be a good show or not...it's Gregory-I already KNOW him. He's just another rich kid who has no idea how regular people like my family and the people in my neighborhood have and still are suffering-he has no clue. I just automatically turn on ABC on Sunday mornings George is at least the lesser of two evils for me.

10. Exactly. He's also married to a former Fannie Mae exec who resigned in Sept.
and now, she's a defense lawyer for white collar criminals. I wonder if she may end up defending herself....

6. He smiles only when talking to Republicans
He felt had to mention, just to "make it clear for the record", that Bush had a big approval record among Democrats after 9/11.

Blecccch, David.

7. he takes that from Tweety, who ALWAYS
asks a question, then, just as the guest starts to answer, editorializes on his own question, cutting off the guest's answer. He does this with virtually every question he asks.

Gregory is just as big a tool as Tweety--maybe even bigger.

9. I actually watched my first Gregory MTP this AM. He is an alchemist - makes everything boring.
The decline of heft of our media running downward from Murrow, Cronkite, Brinkley, Jennings on through to the lightweights we have today - and yes, including Russert - he is part of the decline - is breathtaking. The complete switch of news - from actual news to sales and ratings.

11. Expecting anything especially good of David "It's Not Our Role" Gregory is silly.
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/12/29/gregory/

"Several months before he was named as moderator of Meet the Press, David Gregory went on MSNBC to categorically reject Scott McClellan's accusations that the American media failed to scrutinize the Bush administration's pre-war claims. Gregory vigorously praised the job which he and his "journalistic" colleagues did in the run-up to the Iraq War -- the period which Salon's Gary Kamiya called "one of the greatest collapses in the history of the American media." Proclaimed Gregory, with a straight face: "Questions were asked. I think we pushed. I think we prodded. I think we challenged the President. Not only those of us in the White House Press Corps did that, but others in the media landscape did that." Most revealingly of all, Gregory said:

I think there are a lot of critics who think that . . . . if we did not stand up and say this is bogus, and you're a liar, and why are you doing this, that we didn't do our job. I respectfully disagree. It's not our role.

Indeed. Perish the thought that a reporter should point out when government officials are making "bogus" claims and are lying a country into a war. That is "not their role," says the New Tim Russert (and, unsurprisingly, the Old Tim Russert wholeheartedly agreed). I don't know whether Gregory's public advocacy for a meek and polite press corps that would never be so rude as to point out when government leaders are lying is what sealed the deal for his new promotion to Meet the Press -- a show which centrally depends on having powerful politicians know that they can come on and, as Dick Cheney's top communications aide put it, "control the message." But I'm quite sure that it didn't hurt."
