DISCLAIMER RE: NY POST (for to head off OT posts): Yes, it's a wingnut rag owned by MURDOCH. No, MURDOCH does NOT dictaphone the content of his gossip columnists. No, "gossip" does NOT equate with "UNtrue." Cindy ADAMS is a wingnut, but swims the cocktail circuit and pals around with BOTH the Cuomos AND the Patakis and Teresa KERRY sits on her kitchen floor playing with her Yorkies. Frequently, political tidbits here are FIRST anywhere then gain currency in more "respectable" venues. These old gossipers are more reliable than Tweety & his ilk. Keep friends close, enemies closer. Cherrypicking in an echo chamber is futile. AND the only parts I read in the NY Post are the gossip and the horoscope. I got hooked on them on E! & only went to the Post FOR THEM when they were off the air. (Will add-on as needs transpire.)

Yes, the item's headline snarkily (re: "ideology" and "Jonas Bros") contradicts the content.

OBAMA CAN'T SAVE MAGS

THE year 2008 wasn't grim for magazine sales, but it was great for Barack Obama. Time featured the new president on its cover a staggering 13 times, while Newsweek put him on 11 times. "Obama has become a one-man stimulus media package," author Michael Levine told Page Six. But some editors may have been motivated more by ideology than profit. Die-hard Democrat Jann Wenner put Obama on the cover of Rolling Stone four times last year, but the magazine's best seller was its July 20 issue with the Jonas Brothers. Sex still sells. New York magazine's spring fashion issue featuring Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe was its top newsstand seller. Its worst seller was a "Post-Crime" cover studying trends in law-breaking. Some results left editors scratching their heads. Vogue's November issue with Reese Witherspoon did best, but October with equally lovely and talented Rachel Weisz did worst.
