Coleman reaches out to Franken on absentee ballots
(If this is a dupe I apologize. I searched high and low.)

Norm Coleman reaches out to Franken on absentee ballots

Norm Coleman sent his U.S. Senate opponent a "Dear Al" letter on Saturday, asking him to "join forces" and agree that 12,000 ballots that may have been wrongly excluded from the November election results be examined.

"If you feel that tactically you cannot join this effort," the Republican told DFLer Al Franken, "we would at least ask that your campaign does nothing to block this suit from moving forward or makes any public statements which could be construed as standing in the way of this suit moving forward."

The Franken campaign could not be reached for comment.

And so are his attorneys. I wouldn't trust him to hold a bake sale, much less count ballots. Did you hear about the forged "copies" they tried to lay on the judge? (No link, sorry.) He can't sink into obscurity soon enough for me. Maybe he could join up with Rick Santorum and form a song-and-dance team, since he seems to like doing it so much.

standing aside statement like an obedient and silent child. Watch Normie - he's going to twist whatever Franken does to attempt to make Franken look bad.

This is juvenile. The next thing we'll see is the Miami-Dade Washingtonians banging on a door in St. Paul demanding that the votes BE counted, pretending they are Minnesotans.

11. Response from the Franken camp
ST. PAUL, MINN. (Spurious News Network) -- The Minnesota senatorial race heated up this weekend with the Saturday release of a letter from Republican Norm Coleman's organization to the camp of DFL candidate Al Franken. In it, Mr. Coleman urged Mr. Franken to allow 12,000 ballots rejected in November 2008 to be counted in January. Today, Mr. Franken responded in a letter he wrote himself.

Dear Mr. Coleman,

We received your letter of January 24 with a mix of trepidation, amusement, and ire. Weren't you the one saying I should concede back in November, when you were barely ahead?

We did a perfunctory review of these 12,000 rejected ballots you claim should be included in the vote totals. We find it only slightly ironic that this comes out to slightly more than one ballot for each of Minnesota's 11,642 beautiful lakes. That notwithstanding, we see that 6,200 of these ballots were cast by people who died when Paul Wellstone was still alive, 5000 of them bear the same return address--310 First Street, Washington, DC--and the rest have votes for Ronald Reagan, Jesse Ventura or George MacKinnon. Come on, Norm. VENTURA? Even if he was running, which he's not, we elect governors in off-year elections. You know that, right?

Norm, please. Before you make yourself look any stupider, please concede and come back to Minnesota where you belong. There's a beautiful apartment complex on Osgood Avenue in Stillwater that would be just perfect for you. It's run by a charming young lady named Jessica Symmes. Say hi to her for me when you check in.

For the good of Minnesota, please concede. You're not good enough, you're not smart enough, and doggone it, people don't like you.

I remain,

--Al Franken

I looked it up when I wrote that...Osgood Avenue in Stillwater is Minnesota's maximum-security penitentiary, and Jessica Symmes is warden there.

23. Google the return address on the 5000 ballots from DC
If you thought the comment about Norm checking himself into the Minnesota State Pen was good, wait till you check the return address on the envelopes...

12. Are absentee ballots EVER actually counted?
I've never heard of them really being used in an election. It's just something to placate those who can't show up at the polls.

16. That might depend on the party affiliation of the SoS of a state.
Democratic SoS would count them.

Republican SoS count them only if they vote GOP.

18. Its why I don't vote absentee and I don't vote early - I think they toss every bit of it
In every contested election it seems clear that absentee ballots are only counted if someone can get a court order to have them included and as far as early ballots go I have never seen any indication that they are counted at all.
