This may help explain why the victim said she wasn't "ready for that yet" when, in a recent interview, she was asked if she was going to file a lawsuit. She could be worried about consequences, if the intimidation was for real.

1. We had a "slam dunk" case against the sheriffs department

In the county in which we live.

We decided not to pursue it due to just that sort of thing.

We didn't have the money to move out of the county and we didn't want to take the chance of being set up in some manner.

With "civil asset forfeiture" they can take all your property and seize your bank accounts before a drug case ever makes it to court.

I have personally heard a similar threat by a law enforcement officer.
