Thank you.
These are great and terrible days. It is a privilege to be a part of this place with you, for all of it, and for whatever may come.

4. What would one do without DU?
Survived the Bush era with it.
Hopefully, will survive the Bush-caused-recession-post-Bush era with it.
Someday, down the road, there will be cause for celebration when a lot of stuff is fixed/reversed (with some input from DUers).
Yes, thank you DU and the creators.

6. What's "great" and what's "terrible" in your view?
Off the top of my head...

GREAT: The First Family. God, what a refreshing national self-image! It can't hurt to worship them just a little, while remaining pissed off about...

TERRIBLE: Certain appointments. Also, Howard Dean nowhere to be seen at the Inauguration (was he there?).

GREAT: South America has its own leaders, thank you very much! No need for "U.S. leadership" (as President Obama asserts). Our business people, investors and ordinary citizens here are one day going to be very pissed off about the intense lies and disinformation of our corpo/fascist media about the awesome, peaceful, democratic, leftist movement that has swept South America, and is sweeping Central America, cuz they're going to leave us in the dust, with their new 'common market'--UNASUR--if Obama doesn't get smart about this, and how can he, with such BAD...

TERRIBLE: ...advisors!

GREAT: Planned closure of Guantanamo torture dungeon (--but they really should turn it into a convalescent home for the prisoners, run by Cuban doctors, who have created one of the best medical systems on earth). End of torture.

TERRIBLE: The price we have paid (or someone paid for us) for President Obama being permitted to become president--immunity for the master thieves and war criminals who have escaped (i.e., "impeachment is off the table").

GREAT: A great cleansing spirit--it seems like...

TERRIBLE: ...--but will it be enough? We and others have been so very harmed. Is there enough sage on earth to cleanse it, or to heal even the half of it?

GREAT: I think almost everybody knows by now that the previous elections were stolen...

TERRIBLE: ...but many don't realize that the theft mechanism is still fully in place (although more people are watching).

GREAT: The inauguration speech. Bam!

-------

You said it--"the great and the terrible"--what a rollercoaster ride.

20. almost positive howard was there.
i cannot actually swear to anything that i saw or thought i saw on tuesday. i was delirious by the time i got out of there.
but i do have a fairly clear recognition of him coming up the hallway, and walking out onto the porch.

28. Proof Howard was an honored guest at the inauguration
Dean's speech at DNC 2009 Winter Meeting

In a 17-minute speech, including a long ovation, Dean alludes to his attendance at swearing-in ceremony. He also praises the 50-state strategy and the DNC staff and grassroots workers who brought about victories in 2006 and 2008. He also insists that we have to keep reaching out to "red" states and evangelicals and maintaining the majority that we have built.
Quote about inauguration from speech:
"I was fortunate enough to sit 5 rows behind President Obama as he was sworn in yesterday."

12. DU changed my life.
For example, I still have hair; without DU I would have pulled it all out a few years ago.

The last regime wanted us to feel isolated, afraid, and hopeless. DU has been an antidote to all that.

I didn't like the times you left quite as much, but I'm now a DU groupie more than a Will Pitt groupie.

You almost always thought like me or we differed and yet began to drift to similar areas. It made me feel a little less alone sometimes.

21. an honor and a privilege, sir. and like the man said- "One voice
can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world."

let's all stay fired up and ready to go, eh? there are still a few things in the world that we need to change.

25. Last 8 years=WORST OF MY LIFE
I found DU in about 2003 (yeah yeah I know my post count is pathetic for a six year run lol but I have at least hung in there!)

For me the 90's were fantastic (I mean after the first bush was out of office)

The 2000's have been AWFUL...we lost everything, I just about died (or thought I was going to-I lived, but I'm now broke as a result of staying alive)

These are indeed wonderful days because we have light at the end of the tunnel with #44 but damn what a rank state of affairs bushit left us with! :(

Here's to spending the next 8 years on DU with some better luck for ALL OF US!

31. Hey Will...
...yours is one of the posts I remember most clearly after the catastrophe of the 2004 election. The "stand with me and keep fighting" post. Don't know if you remember it, but I sure do, if not in detailed content so much as in spirit. It's one of the things that gave me some hope during those awful days. Thank you. We've all earned the right to celebrate now!
