GM To Announce More Production Cuts On Monday
General Motors will announce further production cuts Monday, a spokeswoman said.

Details of the cuts haven't received final approval, so the spokeswoman spoke on conditions of anonymity. While reducing output at some plants, GM may build more vehicles at others, she said.

he Business Journal of Youngstown, Ohio, and The Wall Street Journal today quoted local union presidents saying GM would eliminate the second shift at its plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

The Business Journal later retracted its story, saying UAW Local 1112 President Jim Graham had told them the situation was in flux.

The Lordstown plant, which makes the Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5, is scheduled to go from three shifts to two on Feb. 2. In December, GM slashed 175,000 vehicles from its first-quarter production forecast, saying it planned to to build 425,000 vehicles.
