So tell me about torture... it just can't be as bad as pulling wisdom teeth

2. Mine were dug out when I was under general anaesthesia (they weren't formed enough to pull)

and I have to say, it wasn't THAT bad...just motrin and ice cream for a few days after. Of course, I was a teenager then...things didn't hurt as bad in those days.

3. Wisdom teeth are nothing

I grabbed the pain medicine but didn't need it. I knew how long the pain, which wasn't that bad once the anesthesia had worn off, was going to last.

Torture is extreme pain combined with head games that tell the person it's going to last forever.

There is no comparison.

6. I had 1 wisdom tooth out when I was 24 and it came out easily. with little pain.

Now at 56 I found I have another wisdom tooth that is embedded, but doing nothing and causing no harm.

I heard an interesting story on the radio last week about cooking food and how when man started to cook his food it became easier to break down and less chewing was required. Chimps on the other hand spend 8 hours a day just chewing their food to break it down. As a result, man's jaws became smaller and less massive until eventually there was not room for the wisdom teeth. I never knew that.

15. I didn't think my wisdom teeth ever came in...

then, when I'm 50 years old, the dentist does x-rays and tells me my top ones are in, teeny-tiny and grew in upside down. He tells me not to worry about them unless they start to cause trouble - which could be never. Or next week.

I've made it through year one of the waiting.

7. Pulling or surgery to remove them isn't that bad.

Getting Dry-socket (infection) afterward, that sucks like little has sucked before. I had all 4 cut out, and I was awake for it. But that wasn't that bad when compared to the pain I got from the infection.

Don't worry too much, infection is rare and the socket that this happened on had a tooth coming in sideways, and required that tooth to be broken out in pieces.

8. I had 2 taken out last summer--take the medicine even if you

think you don't need it. I was put under and never felt a thing--until the 3rd day. But it was because I didn't take enough pain meds. Although I will say that I'm over 50 and it took a long time to be able to fully open my mouth again. In fact it still hurts sometimes. But overall, it's not too bad and the anesthesia is fun. Weird, when you wake up it feels like 2 minutes have past but I was out at least 40 minutes.

12. Hey, you might be OK. When my son had his taken out, he ended up only having

one day fo swelling, and minimal bleeding and pain.

13. Yup, mine too

I had mine out - but they were all already in - so it was just some novocaine and a lot of yanking. (The one that was really stuck into the bone got a little hairy - picture the oral surgeon with one foot securely planted on the chair for leverage and a lot of blood, lol).

But my kids' were impacted, and the first day he felt crummy - mostly from the blood he'd swallowed, I think. With the pain meds, he was pretty much fine in a day.

And if you do, be sure to wear some kind of heavy undergarment to protect yourself from inappropriate drillin'.
