Great William Kristol Column Today.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/26/opinion/26kristol.html?hp

The deadpan humor of lines like this is exquisite:
"Since Ronald Reagan’s election in 1980, conservatives of various sorts, and conservatisms of various stripes, have generally been in the ascendancy. And a good thing, too! Conservatives have been right more often than not — and more often than liberals — about most of the important issues of the day:"

But the bet line comes at the end:

This is William Kristol’s last column.

1. Conservatives are "right."
However, they are rarely "correct."

2. Where is he going now?
Is he really leaving the Times? What took them so long to kick his sorry ass to the curb?

9. He'll probably spend half of his time trashing the Times.
The other half trashing Obama.

4. Thanks! I couldn't make it to the end it was so awful.
So he sounded his last, pitiful salvo at liberals, whiny to the end.

Bitter much, Kristol?

5. Sort of like saying " the bus driver drove the bus so far off the road, into the woods,
it'll probably take a generation to get it back onto the pavement. What a great driver!"

7. What are things Dad might say that make you think it's finally time for a home?
But if it is indeed Kristol's last column, some good news has at last crept into the pages of the Times.

10. 50 years of the New Deal, and only a couple of bad years in that time
the late 70's with the Arab oil embargo and hyperinflation, and I think there were a couple of hard hears after Korea as well. But average inflation-adjusted wages went up, especially among the bottom 90%. Personal savings went up, education levels went up, and people had solid retirement pensions.

And since Reaganomics, of which we're only had 25 years? Big crash in '87, another big crash a couple of months ago, wage stagnation, high levels of personal debt, low levels of personal savings.

And Reaganomics replaces steady but unspectactular profits from manufacturing with volitile but spectalucar profits from the finance and insurance "industry".

Good for business ≠ good for the people

11. Kristol is as relevant today
As his domain name of Project For A New American Century is, whose website hasn't been updated since 2006, and was temporarily shut down for non-payment last year for a few months.

15. about most of the important issues of the day
They just haven't been good at identifying the most important issues of the day. When the worst storm in 300 years hits New Orleans. That's not a good time to serve birthday cake. But by all accords it was a great choice in birthday cake!
