1. I'm really surprised it hasn't happened by now...
Perhaps when the unemployment insurance of these 100,000s of laid-off workers runs out...

...at this point.

2. State unemployment office would be the most appropriate place to go
Most of them have Web sites that make applying for benefits quick and easy.

After that, get on the stick looking for a new job.

7. The surest way to not find a job is to declare the situation hopeless and stop looking
Maybe not the exact job you want, but there is still work to be done.

14. Ummm, no
Some individuals, granted, will be able to find jobs as a result of their own effort. But when there are more unemployed than there are open jobs, some people must remain unemployed, despite their best efforts. It's a matter of simple mathematics.

It's comforting to think that one controls ones own fate. But the reality is that we are social animals, dependent upon the well-being of the whole, subject to crises which affect the whole. Not everyone who is unemployed is unemployed of their own doing -- in fact, not even most.

5. How about they storm the offices of assholes running fake ads and pretend interviews
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 01:00 PM by DaveTheWave
Employers here in my town are sinking to new lows just to amuse themselves. They're bored and have nothing to do so they're posting fake ads on craiglist and scheduling interviews with dozens of people knowing they don't have any open positions and using the excuse, "We might need somebody six or seven months from now if our business picks up"

12. Two companies I've interviewed with
One construction, the other engineering, both were the owners of the companies, both using about the same or similar excuses. According to the rants and replies on craiglist there's hundreds more doing this for kicks or to find people who will work cheaper and threaten their current employees with to take wage cuts. Then these type of pricks just can't understand why people quit for a better job or without a notice during better times.
