Sen. Levin wants Treasury to halt Citi plane order
Mon Jan 26, 2009 3:01pm EST

WASHINGTON, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Sen. Carl Levin said on Monday that he wants the U.S. Treasury Department to halt Citigroup's (C.N) reported plans to buy a $50 million corporate jet.

Citigroup, which got $45 billion of capital from the U.S. government's bailout program, put in an order for the Dassault Falcon 7X (AVMD.PA) two years ago and plans to accept delivery on the plane later this year, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.

"To permit Citigroup to purchase a plush plane -- foreign-built no less -- while domestic auto companies are being required to sell off their jets is a ridiculous double standard," said Levin, a Michigan Democrat and staunch supporter of the auto industry, in a statement.

3. By all means - PLEASE stop these lewd bastards
This is obscene that they ask for tax payer money than use it buy luxury jets.

When I am broke, I don't buy a new limousine. In fact I don't buy at all.

4. If they're going to spend money on anything,
.. it should be to de-behemoth their operations.

I swear their departments are so gargantuan they have no idea what each other are doing.
I can sit on the phone with a call center rep - who should have all of my records available electronically - who has no idea when I actually bought my house and has to transfer me to 3 other departments to confirm that I shouldn't be on the 'late payment auto-dialer' because I'm looking at a letter from their 'welcome' department telling me I have a 90 day grace period.

W.T.F, people. Seriously. :freak:
