8. I hope he's defeated
I just can't understand how Obama picked that lying SOB. How are people who are part of the problem going to solve the problems (Larry Summers is also part of the problem having worked against Glass-Steagel in the Clinton years)? We are living through a colossal failure of the whole idea of the Fed, which should be abolished -- and we're asking the NY governor of the Fed to fix things?

If you look at the Civil War and World War I the same insane strategies were used again and again in battle (for the Civil War by the Union side). It seemed easier to use the same known and guaranteed to fail strategies than to be creative and try something new -- I guess that was too anxiety producing. I'm afraid it's the same now with our economic troubles.

Declare all derivative bets null and void. Place the commercial banks in bankruptcy reorganization, nationalise them if necessary. Ease the tax burden on small businesses. Place punitive taxes on outsourcing businesses. Lift 9-5 zoning laws (this would also help the environment since people wouldn't have to drive everywhere for their needs). I'm sure there's much more to be done.

9. Well I'm less than happy about the economic team...
but I have no doubt he'll be confirmed.

Just got the feed from cspan...talking about the bailout, picking and chosing winners etc.

I'll read the rest of your post later :)

13. I'm not sure about this guy.
Instead of the solution, he seems like part of the problem. I'll keep an open mind though.

18. TARP, Taxes, Citi and More: Geithner Responds to Questions
http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2009/01/22/tarp-taxes-citi-and-more-geithner-responds-to-questions/

"The Senate Finance Committee approved the nomination of Timothy Geithner for Treasury secretary today, but not before mulling over 102 pages of written answers to questions.

At the end of Wednesday’s Senate Finance Committee hearing, Sen. Max Baucus announced that committee members would have until 5 p.m. (about three hours) to submit questions in writing for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York president. Mr. Geithner would have until 10 a.m. today to provide responses.

The senators submitted 163 questions, with multiple parts for many of them. And the answers were in before 10 a.m. They’re posted online – 102 pages worth on the economy, tax evasion, Bear Stearns, the financial rescues and more. Many of the answers offer little detail but a pledge of “I look forward to working with you…” on the stated matter. Among the responses:..."
