Caroline Running In 2010?
Local news is reporting that the Kennedy's are so furious by the way she's been treated, especially by Patterson and his people that they are seriously discussing her making a run for it in 2010 against Gillibrand.

4. The timing would be better for her..
Perhaps by then her family issues will be resolved, and the will have had ample time to really prepare for the position...if she wants to run..

Part of me thinks she got "caught up" in the emotion and excitement of it all, and realized that she would be giving up the thing she has sought the MOST in her whole life...privacy.

Being one of a hundred, is NOT all that glorious of an thing..and being at the BOTTOM of the seniority list, when you have been "famous" your whole life, is not that appealing to some.

Where she is NOW, she has the ability to garner attention when SHE wants it or needs it for a charitable thing...and her privacy is maintained because it's on HER terms.

5. She didn't back out, she was pushed out.
And she hung on for 54 long, grueling days of swiftboating before she finally gave up. Paterson was never going to pick her voluntarily, but I sure bet he wishes he had.

6. I think she is in an excellent position to head up her own major philanthropy organization.
There are issues she has written about, as well as needs in NY and in the world where she can have an enormous impact.

9. She'll have a bigger impact in the Senate
and an even bigger one in the White House, in 2016. She was one of the few New Yorkers who had the guts to defy the Clintons just like her father defied the Bush-CIA and they both took a hit. Caroline however lives to fight another day.

11. I'm With You On That One
Gillibrand has the Schumer kiss of death on her. The people he backs are never successful or, as Chuck spins them to be. Chertoff and Mukasey are two examples which spring to mind.

The Patterson people really kicked her around and perhaps the most egregious bit of spin was the meme of marital strife. As of today Patterson's approval is at 32%. And at a time when the state is in crisis. he was planning to head off to Davos. Until he changed his mind.

3. Glad to hear it.
We need her. Paterson is a disgrace. What happens in Arkansas should stay in Arkansas.

7. I think that that's just more media spin bullshit.
Kennedy has said that if Paterson appointed someone not a caretaker, she'd get behind the party's nominee in 2010. Besides, if she had something problematic enough to pull out of consideration now, why would it get better by 2010?

13. She did, but Paterson didn't want to give it to her, so he swiftboated her.

15. That's rotten to the core.
It sounds like someone didn't want a Kennedy around.

17. It was pretty lousy alright
and totally unwarranted and unnecessary, and I agree with you, somebody really wants to get her out of the picture. Can't think who would be holding a grudge against Caroline. Someone who never forgets I imagine (heh). But that's pretty much how it's been with the Kennedy's since at least 1960.

I don't have a heck of a lot invested in the NY Senate race, but Caroline Kennedy strikes me as a person with a lot of potential, who unfortunately is new to the art of Senate politics, and wasn't prepared in many ways. She could use a speech coach, and she needs help cleaning up her financial affairs (no, I don't think she did anything so outrageously wrong that she should not hold elected office - tax issues have burned a lot of us, but political opponents jump on these things like a pack of hyenas.)

I say, that she use this mess as a learning experience, improve herself, and definitely jump in the ring for 2010. I don't live in New York, but if I did, I'd vote for her. Barack Obama lost a couple races, and learned from that experience and won the next one.
