A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
The more workers they lay-off, the less money the population has to spend, and the more likely companies will have to lay-off additional workers.

CEO's need to cut their salaries before they lay-off workers. That needs to be the law.

1. It's their survival. They are the progenitors of humanity's future. They are the fittest.
If we're to be rotting in the streets, that's our fate.

Either there is a secret ulterior plan or everything has been happening purely by chance.

On the plus side, if we're all rotting in the streets, the amount of electricity and fossil fuels being used goes down too. Nice and neat way to resolve all sorts of problems, I should think...

Be glad I'm not an emo. :)

Honestly, I don't know what to say. All I can hope for is a benevolent future of some sort. And, indeed, it takes a lot to make a conspiracy. Everything going on is more likely short term greed; plain'n'simple.

2. We just simply must get mad enough to raise hell
This makes me really mad. On the list linked here is the salary for the CEO of General Dynamics. While I don't remember if it was on this particular CEO's watch, the Phalanx Close In Weapons System (GD's product) was installed on the USS STARK and the company knew it wouldn't work. So did the Navy. The system was designed to target and neutralize incoming missiles. When it was needed, it failed. Thirty-seven sailors died. The ship's captain was blamed.

3. One would think that an educated CEO would understand
that the more $$$ a worker has the more they're able to buy things like cars, houses, things that stimulate this consumer-driven economy.
