More than eight teacher positions in the Discover Program, the district's elementary school program for some advanced students, will be trimmed. Those teachers, who are under contract, will have the option to go into existing or future teaching positions, according to the district.
More than 29 elementary library assistant positions will be eliminated. The district hopes that volunteers and parents will help out in the libraries that would be affected.

The school district also announced that it's taking other actions to reduce its $14 million budget deficit. The district will adjust elementary school class sizes to achieve consistency across grades and schools. Also, secondary-level teachers will now teach six of the seven periods a day – one more daily period than they currently do.
