Are any others getting tired of the excuses
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 09:40 AM by samrock
of these politicians.. peeps in the know.. having to make excuses for having forgotten to pay their taxes??? Seems EVERY new administration picks 2-3 of these people who seem decent.. can do the job.. But Oh yes.. I forgot to pay this tax or that tax.. I am sorry.. I declare BS.. They were just figuring they could skate by.. I know all about my taxes.. and if my life was more complicated as for these .. "smart people".. I would hire people to handle that.. I wish Obama or some others would make a point some time.. Ok I am sure you are a decent person and could do this job.. but Sheesh if you can not handle your own taxes.. how can I ask the american people to trust you can do the job I have for you..

1. Where's The IRS
If any 'regular' citizen hadn't paid taxes they'd be after us like a shot, and we certainly wouldn't get off with not paying interest and penalties like Geithner did.

4. ... or if the IRS just decides to 'refigure' your taxes ..
... like in my case. Suddenly I owe a couple thousand for each of the past 5 years. When my income averaged $38k/yr.

These millionaire clowns? Never get audited or prosecuted.

The IRS and its games really pisses me off because its obviously not what you earn, its who you know.

2. In Daschle's case- I'm quite sure he figured he'd skate right by
That was OBVIOUSLY gross income- either he knew that- or is too inept to be placed in position where he's going to have to do some serious- and complicated number crunching.

Either that, or simply takes as fact the numbers presented to him by he and his wife's health care lobbiest buddies.

3. Here are some more facts of life.
Most people who do not earn their income from wages cheat on their tax return. There are many loopholes in the tax laws and these people try to take advantage of them. If they get caught, they just pay the tax and go on with their life. I know several business owners and they pay very little tax because they have so many expenses to write off. There is no way that I can avoid tax on my pension, CD interest or SS. I have to pay more tax than some of my friends who earn more than twice of what I do because they own a small business.

5. Even on the simplest tax return
there's no way to be 100% sure you've done it correctly according to the rules.

Why?

Because there are more tax laws than any one individual can possibly comprehend. Even some Congressmen who actually write the tax laws don't have their taxes in order.

Heads up to the Congressional majority and Obama: if you want to earn a TON of political capital, and give a big boost to the economy at the same time, make tax law reform a top priority.
