Yale Whiffenpoofs celebrate 100 years. Cute video of Whiffs singing
their famous Whiffenpoof Song." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3Dmi2KmGYI

This is from one of their regular Monday night performances at Mory's, now, sadly, temporarily closed.

Note how the Whiffs are a little "loose" in their appearance!

1. I was in one of those a capella groups at Yale.
But I was not a Whiff -- I auditioned, but did not make the cut. A bunch of my close friends were Whiffs in the early 90s. Watching that video brings back a lot of memories.

Why is Mory's closed?

2. Mory's is basically flat broke. I get the impression that the alums are trying to put together
some kind of funding since I believe the alums "own" Mory's.

I've seen/heard the Whiffs on many occasions, but always "in concert" where they are a lot crisper, to say the least, than in this video. But I still found the video just charming...

3. I always thought the whole "private club" aspect of Mory's was absurd.
I wonder if it hurts more than it helps them. I've never eaten there in my life because of it. But the boys from my singing group used to go drinking there from time-to-time, which was fun.

4. Lotta things about Yale are "absurd" IMO.
But I know some great Yalies and have a lot of respect for it. It certainly makes life here in New Haven enjoyable.

6. Sorry you don't like it.
I guess I can see your point. They do look a little ridiculous. They sing better in their concerts but they were doing this for the old Elis who eat at Mory's on Monday nights amidst a fair amount of drinking. It's just one of those Ivy League things...
