The correct comparison is to the McCaughey Septuplets. The Duggars had them one at a time, and had them via the United Way.
The McCaugheys used artificial methods--fertility drugs in their case--to create a large number of children in one batch, they eschew selective reduction and they couldn't have afforded to raise the kids without a LOT of donations or without selling their story to magazines and television shows.

1. The Duggars whore out their kids even more eagerly than the McCaugheys. I think both couples are |
|
obsessive and excessive idiots regardless of the mechanics used.

2. when *broodmare* becomes the family's main income |
|
NEITHER one should be bitching. When the Duggars stop whoring out their kids for income, the comparisons will stop.
Until then -- both deserve it completely.

4. aren't you jumping to conclusions about this woman? |
|
From all accounts, she's trying to stay out of the spotlight, its mainly the media and nosy neighbors who keep pushing it out.

11. And once the kerfuffle quiets down, WATCH as the corporate *gifting* starts |
|
No - I don't believe I'm jumping the gun.
Do you honestly BELIEVE that this little *publicity package from heaven* is going to be ignored by the corporations who are looking for PR? From what I've already read, the grandmother is overwhelmed, the Mom obviously has a bizarre OCD problem about kids.
I'm sure the anti-choice groups and the corporations are having to utilize drool buckets while they wait for their turn at this group. I'll even wager Oprah's people either have or will be calling them soon.

I have no problem with corps giving out gifts or having a TV show to make their income! With all the bellyaching about how our tax dollars are going to spent on these babies I have ZERO issues with anyone wanting/trying to help.

Better off letting companies offer to help than unwilling tax payers.

20. That will depend on how telegenic those kids are, or how many of them end up impaired. |
|
Happy-Happy-TV Land does not focus on ill children..and this mom seems to have a mental issue too..
Combine those things with the fact that she "may be a muslim" she's never had a husband, cannot support those kids and you don't have the formula for a hit-tv show..

3. Well, she already had 6 small children |
|
Why would she seek fertility treatment? I would have more sympathy for her if she had 1 or no live children.

15. the others were IVR also, and she didn't want to be married, just have kids |
|
so says the mother. My question now is to wonder if she could have gotten pregnant via a simple Artificial Insemination rather than the more expensive and invasive IVR method.

Except for that creepy, obsessive need to keep having more and more children that is.
Does that not count?

12. All three groups had that obsession |
|
The Duggars, OTOH, produce them one at a time, not in...well, litters.

16. Healthier for the initial birth I guess |
|
But way harder on the mother's body to do them one at a time.
No, for me it really doesn't gain them anything. Any benefit the Duggars would gain in the court of my opinion is more than offset by pimping out their kids on a TV freak show.
They are all odd and bordering on the pathological.

10. When my sister & her husband adopted her little girl they had to |
|
promise the judge that said child would never be on welfare. Shouldn't there be a similar clause when asking for fertility drugs?

17. How can you promise that and keep it? |
|
How do you know what's going to happen in the future? All you can do is do your best. What if there are circumstances beyond your control?

19. I supposed you cannot but they managed to keep their adopted |
|
daughter off, put her through college. That is what they promised to do. The idea is that you do not bring children into this world without thinking about it very seriously. This girl with here babies has obviously thought only one thing - I want a baby and now I want another one - and another and now I want one so bad that I will use a method that very often delivers multiple births. I actually feel sorry for her and her mother. And the children.
