Ohio dad who shock-collared kids gets 16 years

XENIA, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for disciplining his children with a dog shock collar.
David Liskany of Jamestown had pleaded guilty to charges of felonious assault and attempted felonious assault.

In court Friday, Greene County Common Pleas Judge J. Timothy Campbell compared the punishments to torture.

The judge said Liskany punished the children in 2006 and 2007 by putting them in cold showers, holding them underwater and using the shock collar, which is commonly used to train dogs

Children 'were basically waterboarded'

AARON KEITH HARRIS
Staff Writer

XENIA — The Caesarscreek Twp. man who used a shock collar and water torture to discipline three of his four children was sentenced to 16 years in prison by Greene County Common Pleas Court Judge J. Timothy Campbell Monday.

David O. Liskany, 39, of Hussey Road, was sentenced to six years each for two counts of second-degree felonious assault and to four years for one count of third-degree attempted felonious assault.

“The only thing you didn’t do was wrap their faces in cheesecloth. They basically were waterboarded,” Campbell said before handing down his sentence, which was far harsher than the 4 years in prison recommended by state probation authorities.

According to Campbell, Liskany abused three of his four children - who were 13, 11 and four at the time of the abuse - by using a dog’s shock collar on them, holding them underwater, subjecting them to cold showers and spraying water up their noses.

--------------------------------------------------

The abuse came to the attention of law enforcement in December 2007 when Liskany's oldest son was reported missing. The boy, then 13, had fled the house after an altercation with his father. The teenager walked 15 to 20 miles through a snowstorm to seek safety at a relative's home.

2. As fucked up as the case is, I do think that sentence is a bit harsh.
You can kill someone and not sixteen years. I'm not saying he shouldn't of done time, but that seems a bit much to me.

3. Then again, maybe this judgement will affect precedent
and move the law toward more serious ramifications for certain degrees of homicide.

6. I understand that.
I think that the four year sentence was probably more appropriate.

Ya mean it's good enough for our so-called enemy combatants but not for these kids?? :wtf:

9. Four to sixteen years sounds about the right sentence for all those who
recommended, authorized, or administered torture in contravention of international law. :P

13. I bought one of those "bark control" collars for our new dogs...
We just took in two "mini-wieners" from some people that didn't want them any longer. One of them is somewhat overly fond of barking so I thought I'd try one of the bark control collars. Well of course I wanted to know how it worked so I strapped around my neck. One shock was all it took to convince I didn't care for it. I hung it up on a hook out in the garage...
