WRBL CBS in Columbus GA blacked out Letterman last nite.
I tuned in to watch the David Letterman show last nite after reading that he was going to have Bill Hick's mom on. After a little while, I realized that what I thought was some tech problem was obviously the station's decision to black out the show last nite. I had not seen any negative hype around the airing of the clip that Dave had said he was going to show on there also. Media General Inc owns this CBS station. The whole thing seems to be way over the top reactionary. I haven't been able to reach anyone yet there, but I hope to Monday and tell them how pissed I am.

on his way to becoming perhaps even the Lenny Bruce of his generation, when he died of cancer at the age of 32 in, I believe, 1994...The suits at CBS deleted this particular performance (and he died only a few months later, so this would have been his last appearance on Letterman), at least that's probably the true story, but Letterman took responsibility for it and tried , and I think , succeeded, at making amends both to Hicks' family and to his audience all these years later. This was actually a very mild Hicks performance, but still "controversial" stuff about Jee-Zuzz etc.

4. Letterman was extremely apologetic to Mary Hicks
and said over and over "What was I thinking?" He was gracious, as always. I really think David Letterman is a class act.
