Troops In Iraq Allowed Two Beers For Super Bowl

Miami, FL (AHN) - U.S troops watching the Super Bowl in Iraq will be able to consume two beers while enjoying the game Sunday.

Army Gen. Ray Odierno, the U.S. commander in Iraq, issued a waiver to a strict ban on U.S. service members drinking alcohol while serving in a war zone.

More than 15,000 cases of beer have been shipped to Iraq for the game, which airs at 2 p.m. Iraq time. The beer will be served free to troops in dining halls on their bases, the Army Times reported.

The waiver doesn't apply to soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors in Afghanistan, but about 2,000 pizzas have been sent to that country by the non-profit organization, Pizzas 4 Patriots.

The ban on alcohol in war zones is also heavily rooted in not offending Muslim host nations.

1. If they had banned alcohol in Viet Nam it would have been Johnson to lose the war, not Nixon.

An imperial quart of Seagrams 100 proof vodka ... $1.25 ... same price for Rose's Lime Juice. Voila! Gimlets!!

A case of Budweiser ... $2.40 ... that's 10 cents per 12 oz curl. (Fifteen cents at the NCO Club ... and no rationing.)

No alcohol in a war zone??? Since fucking when??

3. George W. Bush didn't think they should be able to drink alcohol, I'll bet
>No alcohol in a war zone??? Since fucking when??

They can drink Diet Coke. After all, it's not Godly to drink, is it? I'm with you: If they want a drink, let 'em have one.

Here's another stupid question: Didn't we occupy THEM? Therefore, it's not really a "war zone", is it?

I'd like to thank the vets who've already weighed in on this thread for their service.

6. No point in drinking if you can only have two.
How they make these guys suffer is horrible.

7. Unless GI's have changed a lot, they'll find a way to get around it.
I'm sure the local black-market will do a thriving business..well, more thriving than usual.

The locally made (and banned) "Plum Brandy" we guzzled in Taiwan forced the brass to actually give us free beer to keep us from drinking the rotgut.
