Jones Industrial averages weren't really industrial (and a few others are fairly suspect for that category). These are there "measures of success" - breathlessly reported on in nearly religious awe - and no one could forsee a point where people (those of us formerly referred to as 'consumers') wouldn't be able to keep buying their stuff if we didn't have decent wages?

2. Why didn't the CEOs realize
that if they shipped all the jobs overseas, no one would have the money to buy what they're selling??

3. they actually did think they had a market for their shit
It's coming back to me slowly, when I worked at Digital Equipment in the Systems Integration group back in the mid-80s.

They were eyeing a billion Chinese. Yup. Thought they would convert a billion Chinese peasants to the American way of life.

I remember reading an article about a Chinese peasant woman looking at a bag of potato chips...shaking her head and saying she could buy a hundred pounds of potatos for that price.

Those fucktards really thought they could sell the world on our superior "culture."
