I agree. My other ankle feels naked without one of these things. They are great. If I was playing ball I would definitely wear one on each foot too.
Because of injuries I can't be jumping around on the court :grr:

$150 on stuff I mostly don't need.

Funny you bring it up like this. I had called a friend this morning to see if she wanted to go shopping with me and her husband informed she was at the mall because she thought it was her duty as a citizen to spend money.

9. we only did it because the tires were sooooo bad it was getting dangerous
Our membership was up for renewal at Costco, so $50 was for that.. and my husband thought we needed 6 fire extinguishers..another $60.. a replacement for a dead coffeemaker $30..

It seems like we always end up spending $300 when we go there..that's why we don;t go very often

46. Well I stopped at Target yesterday for 1 thing, but ended up spending over $300
It seemed like the entire store was marked down to 75%. I bought all my kids clothes for next year. Which is what I usually do throughout the year at clearance racks, but I was able to buy most of what we will need for 3 kids next year in 2 hours. Also tons of toys marked down 30-75%, I've never seen that at Target (but then I don't usually shop toys, just noticed how much clothes were marked down, so maybe it's normal?). So I thought about all the cousins/friends birthday's that are coming up. I don't think I spent more than $5 on any one item. The stuff for my 6-month-old was all under $3.

Husband was a little peeved, until he realized how much crap I got. I won't be shopping for a long time though, maybe for special occasions. Any extra money we have is either getting saved or spent on lessons for the kids. So not sure how much I will continue to stimulate!

the economy thanks you for the foreplay.
I did go and buy a 19 dollar filter for my fish tank yesterday. The old one broke and the fish were gasping for air. That means more ramen noodles and peanut butter this week but the fish come first.
sigh..I have been putting off getting my car maintenanced. Its got to be done soon, I am 2000 miles over the oil change limit and the transmission is acting up. Maybe after taxes.

Even when I was driving my parents' hand-me-down Honda Civic, four new tires never cost me more than $150.00

20. Wow. I've calculated it's actually cheaper and better to go with the 30K tires, especially on an
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 06:15 PM by 4lbs
older car.

For example:

A set of new tires @ $25 each, rated for 30K to 40K miles. With taxes, and additional fees and installation, it comes out to say, $150.

Replace them every 30,000 miles.

So, you get 90,000 miles on 3 sets of tires for about $450.00

Or, the route your husband took, and getting 75K on a set of 70K rated tires for $480.00

It's cheaper, and you get an extra 15K miles out of it by spending $150 at a time. In addition, $450 spaced out over the years in equal $150 installments isn't as much a shock to the wallet as $480.

Plus, what happens if you get a flat? There goes that expensive tire and you spend for a new one. I'd much rather have to replace a $25 tire than a $60 one.

I went out to a tire place and bought a used wheel and retread tire as a spare. Total cost was $25.00. I didn't want that cheesy puny doughnut thing they often give as a spare. Plus, a retread is often good for several thousand miles as opposed to that doughnut spare that is only good for several hundred miles.

but I have wanted one for a long time, and decided now was the time.. We have a friend who is unemployed, so we're hiring him for a week..paying him $800 to dig the foundation for the walls, break up the old sidewalk, lay new sprinkler lines, and then the concrete (getting stamped, patterned) will be done by someone else..

We're going to put in some small palm trees & landscaping later after we sod what's left of the yard :)

and the concrete place is extra.. He said he could dig the footings & do the sprinkler stuff in a week.. & I figured that $800 worked out to $20 an hour for 40 hrs..

We estimated the concrete & wall work at about $4K, but they are not coming out until next week to take the measurements.. the sod may have to wait :)

Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 07:08 PM by NMDemDist2
new dishwasher from our locally owned Sears store, but it was a German Bosch model

new lawn tractor and tow behind cart with an American made Briggs-Stratton motor from our locally owned Sears store

employed a laid off construction worker for a month to re-do our living room tape and texture and paint

bought paint and accessories for above listed improvement from locally owned Sherwin Williams

bought 2 original art pieces from the artist in upstate New York

bought three rugs made in GA

bought new fabric from my favorite American furniture maker to re-cover the chair that no longer fits the new decor ( www.homereserve.com in case your in the market for a new chair or couch)

got a new Dirt Devil upright for quick touch ups of new rugs

We've spent over $7500 in the last two months using as much American made or local stores as possible.

Sadly WalMart got a few of our bux, but not until after I tried every other place I could think of for the drapes, including my locally owned fabric store as I was willing to make my own.

AND we went out to eat twice yesterday, both at local mom and pop restaurants

bought groceries at about $74 in food stamps, bought basics like TP, cheap bubble bath for kids, bath salts for mommy and stress, paper towels, and some tupperware for leftovers so we don't waste food... total about $25 cash

so I guess that's all I can do to help

It has been so long since I even WENT to a mall, I don't know what I would do if I ever got to go shopping like I used to when I was younger with a better job and had disposable income and 2 less kids (even harder to think that was a little more than 10 yrs ago!)

I haven't broken out the bread machine in a long while... part of itis because when you get depressed, you lose the desire to cook and do all that homey stuff. Comfort food becomes fast frozen crap, because mommie is too wiped out from crying all day to cook :(

...god am I really that lame? sounds horrible!
On the upside, I AM getting counseling form the county MH dept, so I can hopefully break free form this underconfidence that makes me feel like a failure cuz I am not being "productive"...

Tried all the meds & none helped that much, so I just resigned myself to the "bad times" now and then, and am grateful for the good times when they come:)

52. I work on the Vacuum theory of Economics
We don't have a lot of money, but when it is gone, that creates a vacuum and somehow more money shows up.
Been working for me for over 35 years now.

Ex: Mr. D. had to make an emergency trip to the West Coast in Oct ( his brother died).
and that blew a hole in our budget.
3 weeks after his return we got a letter from Soc. Sec. disability, saying they owed him money for back payments ...determination error.
Enclosed was the exact amount of the cost of the trip...........O8)

This kind of thing happens a lot.

Somehow we always seem to have "just enough" for the moment, as long as the moments are not
extraveagant.
