Now peanuts ( not just peanut paste) being recalled.
Harry and David Recalls Olympia Delight Trail Mix Because of Possible Health Risk
http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/harrydavid01_09.html

It is no longer just peanut paste, it is expanded recalls for peanut butter and peanuts.
I found 29 recalls notices in my mailbox just now.

1. Meijer's is recalling dry roasted peanuts, etc. too.
I am not eating anything with peanuts or peanut butter. I really miss it though. It is hard to pack lunches 5 days a week for kids and hubby without peanut butter.

5. How similar is the almond butter's taste to peanut butter?
I just bought some MaraNatha Organic peanut butter and someone else was telling me that they sell almond butter too. I have never tried that.

9. Try (or make in blender) some cashew butter!
Delicious! So must better than peanut butter! If you make it yourself, YOU control what goes into it.

14. Keep in mind, it will seperate out (fats) when stored, and store in fridge

You will have to stir before serving, but cashew butter is sooooooo good.

Ever toss some cashews on pizza? Try it. Yummy

21. I love MaraNatha almond butter!!
It's a pain to stir it up, but if you keep it in the fridge after stirring, the oil won't separate out again.

It's been a while since I've had peanut butter... but I do remember that the taste is different. I stick with the almond butter 'cause I keep reading about how good almonds are for you. :)

At my local Sunflower market, they have machines that ground either peanuts or almonds on site.

10. I can't find anyplace that lists Skippy products.
I was stocking up on canned goods last fall and bought a bunch of Skippy p/b. They had jars for 99 cents last week, so I picked a couple more up. My cupboard runneth over with peanut butter.

8. It hits you between 8 and 72 hours after ingestion.
You are probably just fine from what you ate earlier in the week. I would not worry about it.

13. I think my husband got sick from it..
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 07:02 PM by SoCalDem
We buy those Austin snack crackers from Costco, and a few weeks ago for no apparent reason, he threw up at work.. and then a few days later it happened again.. He nibbles on those things at his desk ..

He felt fine afterward, ans has not eaten anymore.. we returned what was left of the crackers.. :scared:

22. That is so scary.
It is getting to the point where I am afraid of the things I feed my children. I could give them something that makes them sick or worse. It is just getting ridiculous. We need more inspectors and more regulations. I am glad your husband did not get too sick. Thankfully, there is not too much peanut butter in those little crackers. But it sure sounds like they were tainted.

NEW YORK, N.Y. —Neither of the two licensed bakers affiliated with Girl Scout® Cookies, ABC Interbake or Little Brownie Bakers, source their peanut butter from the supplier involved in the current peanut butter warning.

All ingredients used in Girl Scout Cookies are regularly inspected to ensure they are safe for consumption.

FDA and other regulatory agencies have indicated that Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) is the focus of their investigation concerning a recent Salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter. PCA does not supply peanut butter used in any variety of Girl Scout® cookies.

Food safety and quality are of the utmost importance to us. The Girl Scout® Cookie Program is the nation's premier entrepreneurship and educational program for girls and we appreciate your support in your local communities.

For more information on where to get Girl Scout Cookies, go to www.girlscoutcookies.org.
