Why did Giuliani Endorse Mario Cuomo in '94? |
|
Giuliani endorsed Democrat Mario Cuomo for governor in 1994, very publicly snubbing George Pataki, the Republican and the winner.
Giuliani also apparently stayed neutral in the 1996 presidential election and flirted with endorsing Bill Clinton.
Why did he endorse Cuomo? And how will the 'wingers respond?

1. Not that I like Rudy, but he is pretty much a RINO |
|
He's pro choice and pro gay marriage
At the same time, he's also pro war, and very big on police. Chances are if he wins he'd rachet up the drug war big time. So choose your evil.

that Guiliani found it more favorable to have a Governor who was friendly to the city since Cuomo had deep ties to NYC and had lived there. Basically, NYC would get more money under Cuomo. Pataki was from upstate NY which meant that he wouldn't put the city first. NYC is also majority Democratic which again, a Republican Governor would be less sympathetic to its concerns.

4. Pataki wasn't from that far |
|
away from the city. It actually was because Pataki was selected by Alfonse D'Amato.

5. I think Pataki and him were |
|
feuding at the time. Some bad blood between Ghouli and Pataki, don't remember what it was though.
I'm sure that they won't want this brought up now and the corporate media will comply.

6. Sometimes it is better if the Mayor of New York City has a good |
|
business relationship with the Governor.
Plus, Pataki is easy to pass up. He is one of the most mediocre politicians to ever walk down the street.
