Renee Zellweger : I have a crush on Jimmy Carter
On Thursday's Late Show, actress Renee Zellweger recounted her “emotional” experience seeing Barack Obama's inauguration, but Obama isn't the only liberal politician she idolizes. Zellweger, who stars in a new movie that apparently ridicules small town America and Christians, told USA Today: “I have a crush on Jimmy Carter. I admit it. He has an extraordinary mind. He's an exceptional human being. And he writes poetry, for crying out loud. He's all good things.”

See, another reason why Jimmy is the greatest former president! Even at 84, he's attracting beautiful young women!

5. He was easily one of our greatest presidents
...and certainly the greatest president of my time.

Here is just a small list of his accomplishments during his presidency:

1) Foreign policy: Forged peace between Israel and Egypt which still lasts to this day.

2) Domestic policy: Appointed Paul Volcker to the fed who reversed disastrous Republican monetary policies and eventually fixed stagflation leading to the economic boom of the 80's.

3) Energy policy: Created the Dept. of Energy. Was the first president to ever have a comprehensive energy policy. Initiated conservation efforts that still have a huge impact on energy today.

The GOP demonized Carter and blamed him for all the previous Republican presidential screw ups, but a careful observation of history shows his accomplishments eclipsed Raygun, BushI, and BushII combined.

15. Yes, but there was more to it than that.
He just didn't have the skills or demeanor to convince folks to follow his lead. He inspired no loyalty.

Hence Ted Kennedy's challenge to him and reluctant loss to him in '80.

16. Carter was more of a visionary
He could see 20-40 years down the road where most other politicians can't see into next week.

19. He basically told Americans what they did not want to hear, that
the party was over and we were going to have to change our ways.

6. Here's another reason why I love Jimmy Carter so:
When being interviewed on CNN last week, he was asked about the Iranian President's reaction to Obama: he matter-of-factly dismissed him by saying that "Ahmadinejad's an irresponsible blabbermouth". Now that's poetry.

He's also devoutly religious (his sister was even an evangelist, no less) yet he studiously kept religion out of government and didn't use it for political gain.
