American Tamils urge Obama to stop war

A group comprising American Tamils of Sri Lankan origin, known as “Tamils for Obama” is drafting a petition to be handed over to US president-elect Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton urging them to bring pressure on the Sri Lankan Government to put an end to the war and resume peace talks.

The pro LTTE group last week claimed that it had collected the signatures of over 50, 000 individuals in a week for the purpose.

The petition to President to-be Obama and Secretary of the State designate Hilary Clinton reads initially: ‘Dear Mr. President and Madam Secretary, The people who signed this formal request are humbly asking you to take action to end the war in Sri Lanka.”
