When are the stimulus checks expected to show up in mailboxes?

maybe $12-20 dollars more in your paycheck. Faster and people are more likely to spend that money than a lump sum thats easier to put in the bank.

4. I'll have to correct my mom, and I agree

she's been following the economic stuff on the news more carefully than I have but she must have misunderstood. If I got a $500 check right now, it would make a difference - buying stuff, or putting it toward debt so I would feel more comfortable spending in the coming months. Right now all I know is my employer is not giving annual raises this year, so I guess that "stimulus" will help a little bit with cost of living.

and I think I read somewhere that the house bill calls for increases in Food Stamps and even some health care coverage for the unemployed. Plus money spent on infrastructure should help put some unemployed people back to work.

which count as everyday purchases which could be purchased if the stimulus was less focused on bailing out those who already HAVE and more focused on those who DON'T, the homeless, unemployed - yes, there are UI extensions and such, but not enough.

The point is not merely handing out money, but rebuilding the economy. Obviously there is a GREAT need for expanded homeless services (including HOMES) and hunger relief. However: more people buying a bag of onions => grocery store needs to restock onions more often => distributor needs to buy more onions => from more farms. Every step along the way calls for job creation over time. I know it's been a long time since anyone's seen it so it's understandable that we may forget, but this is what demand-side stimulus looks like. This is REAL, not phony, theoretical, give-the-rich-more-money-to-create-more-jobs supply-sider fairy tales. Giving working families more resources for necessities creates more wealth (less joblessness and homelessness) in the long term than giving millionaires more money for yachts, like we've been doing for about 30 years. It's finally starting, and DU, true to predictable fucking form, is crabby because it's not perfect right out of the gate.

There are a lot of folks that pay taxes on income from sources other than traditional employment. Self-emplolyment, social security, pension, disability, royalty, lottery and gambling winnings, other retirement or investment income. Any tax stimulus that rewards those with empoyment related income while penalizing those with income from other sources is manifestly unfair. Apparently these folks are less deserving than others and must bear an even greater share of the tax burden. Fuck that.

for the year of 2008 and I sold anything I hade left some little shares of company stock and now I get statements for selling that stuff but I had No income so I'm sure when I have to file taxes I will do nothing but owe even though I have not had a job for over a year and can't find one but I will owe even though I am in a bracket of maybe 20 - 50 thousand. What did Tom do ? Starting to get real sick of pukes and Dems. Real sick of them. On Edit: How the fuck do you owe one hundred and forty thousand in taxes and Not know it. How many of you even make 140 thousand dollars a year. I am so sick of this shit.
