Kurt Warner of the Cardinals: "I'd like to blame Jesus for our loss."
Edited on Sun Feb-01-09 10:56 PM by greyl
Subject line is satire. The rest all too true.

(What a great finish to the game!)

Both Kurt and his wife are active born-again Christians.

Warner has also appeared in several public service announcements for Civitan International, promoting their volunteer efforts and their work with the developmentally disabled.

On October 24, 2006, he was featured in a political advertisement opposing a bill supporting embryonic stem cell research in Missouri. The advertisement was in response to a pro-embryonic research ad featuring Michael J. Fox. He appeared in the advertisement with James Caviezel, Patricia Heaton, Jeff Suppan, and Mike Sweeney. The advertisement aired during Game 4 of the 2006 World Series.

57. Let us not mock Grocery Workers......
Their work is honorable and for the most part they do not interject themselves into things of science in national forums.

I know I busted my rear end bagging (as did my checking and bagging crew) yesterday afternoon and evening so that many could go home with their purchases and enjoy their sporting entertainment.

58. I apologise, my intention wasn't to be mocking grocery workers
However, I prefer to bag my own groceries, as I haven't been fortunate to having very qualified baggers when I go shopping.

Back in the 70's the grocers used to train the sack boys as they were called back then, I don't think they receive training anymore. But I do realize that they are doing the job they are paid to do.

As for the Cardinal quarterback he wouldn't have been given a second thought on his science "credentials" if he were still a bag boy, that's the only reason I brought it up in the first place.

How exactly are his beliefs being "forced down your throat"? People could say the same thing about Dan Rooney (owner of the Steelers) mentioning Obama in his speech after the game last night, when Obama didn't have a single thing to do with the Superbowl. So the guy believes in God...big deal. Your intolerance is intolerable...or something like that

If the Cardinals had played the entire game the way they did the 4th quarter, they would have probably won. Despite the Diebold referee staff that expected them to defy the laws of gravity.

14. No puppy for his kids either
Sharing a loveseat with his wife, Brenda, in the living room of their suburban Phoenix home late Sunday night, having endured a long day’s worth of pressure from the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game, the Arizona Cardinals’ Super Bowl-bound quarterback made a proclamation that even President-elect Barack Obama didn’t dare utter in his household.

“No puppy,” Warner said, provoking immediate resistance from Brenda and 17-year-old daughter Jesse, the second oldest of the couple’s seven kids. “It’s not gonna happen.”

“Dad, you promised,” Jesse said. “Remember?”

“I never promised that.”

“We are so getting a puppy if you win the Super Bowl,” Brenda said, smiling like someone who knows she’ll get her way. “Just like you said we would.”

On TV - some comedian who's name I can't remember. He basically said the same thing you did except that his line was "How come you only hear about Jesus when good stuff happens in a football game. How come you never hear some player say 'Well - I was doing alright until Jesus made me fumble'". :D

I'm trying to wean myself off sports, it's too time consuming. I don't watch football anymore, I gave that up. I got tired of the interviews after the games, because the winning players always give credit to God, and the losers blame themselves. You know, just once I'd like to hear a player say, 'Yeah, we were in the game—until Jesus made me fumble. He hates our team.'

34. Yeah, but he was thinking it
After the Cardinals won the division championship, Warner said "the only reason" he was up there (talking into the mike) was the Lord Jesus. That must have come as quite a surprise to the other players on his team who busted their asses getting him to that mike. They probably thought they had a small hand in it -- unless Jesus was the guy who made three touchdowns.

I will believe the "I owe it all to Jesus" horse shit when a player refuses a salary increase because he didn't do anything -- it was all Jesus.

And he still lost The Big Game and only has Jesus to blame!

A bunch of indy filmmakers have set out on a mission to show the mysteries and controversy behind the identity of God, as seen by our culture and society. The film is called God In The Box. One of those they talk to is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, a devout Christian. One of them asks Warner if he’s worried that his friends and teammates who don’t lead Christian lives will go to hell.

Kurt Warner is worried you’re going to hell

Fyi everyone, this OP was never about targeting Kurt. I'd bet he's a decent enough guy, other than the opposition to stem cell research, GLBT issues, and authentic progressive thought.
It was an opportunistic jab(5 seconds before the end of the game) at the irrationality of a particular religious behavior that I know we've all seen from many, many people.

59. I thought Kathy Griffin said it best...
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 06:54 AM by pokerfan
when she accepted her Emmy a couple of years ago...

"Now, a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. He didn't help me a bit. If it was up to him, Cesar Milan would be up here with that damn dog. So all I can say is suck it, Jesus, this award is my god now!"

Kathy Griffin meant this remark not as a slight on Jesus but rather as a satire of celebrities who thank Jesus profusely and nonsensically for their awards, especially artists who themselves are controversial.

Her remarks were quickly condemned by the Catholic League which urged the academy to "denounce Griffin's obscene and blasphemous comment." The Academy said that her "offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night". Griffin later responded, "Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?"

The editing was condemned in two consecutive episodes of Freethought Radio, the latter containing the deleted material. Annie Laurie Gaylor in particular objected to the comment being described as "hate speech."

Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly called Griffin a "pinhead" (a label he frequently uses) for her remark, which Griffin considered a "badge of honor."

75. For fuck's sake, I was exaggerating.
Sorry if I touched a nerve. The point I was trying to make is that it is stupid and as somebody who is a huge sports fan, I have to deal with that crap a lot. The first 2 people who replied to my post understood my point, you and operationmindcrime would rather ignore my point to try and make a sarcastic comment and apparently don't know what the word exaggeration means.

62. Like I said before....
....unless he actually uses his religion to propogate hate towards other people, and not just stances that you or I might not see eye to eye with, I don't really see what his religious views have to do with anything.

63. A brilliant cartoon about divine intervention in sports
"God-Man on the Gridiron!", a Tom the Dancing Bug cartoon by Ruben Bolling.

It perfectly captures the absurdity of these athletes who think God is pre-occupied with the score in their game.

64. In the Simpson's episode "Homer the heretic" God asks Homer if St. Louis still has a team
Homer responds "No, they moved to Phoenix!"

See, God really is a Cards fan!
