Does anybody in DC get it???
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 07:07 AM by Are_grits_groceries
There are major problems in the hinterlands to put it mildly. Every minute they get worse. NOBODY wants to hear the pick, pick, pick about the stimulus bill. NOBODY cares if it passes by one vote or by 20.
DO. SOMETHING. NOW.
Take the tax cuts out because when will that money hit the system? Ramp up spending that will go directly to jobs. Put money in unemployment funds because they will need it.
Make it a 10 page bill at most. If you can't say plainly what goes where in 10 pages then screw it.
Create an oversight board with real power to check it NOW.
Meet 24/7 and GET. IT. DONE.
Smash it through the Senate and if somebody obstructs, make ads and run them 24/7 in their home states.
This for keeps because Madame DeFarge and Monsieur Marat are being paged as I write.

And oh by the way, send Senator McConnell home. His state is frozen and they need his hot air.

1. The republicans are crying that there isn't enough tax cuts
They still are hanging on to that failed notion that cutting taxes of people who are out of work will fix the economy.

4. You are right that tax cuts are not what this stimulus package needs.
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 07:19 AM by dkf
On the other hand, some Republicans are right that the package includes spending that is not designed as a short term stimulus, but are expansion of plans that Democrats have added just for the hell of it and because they think they can.

Every dollar spent should be carefully thought out. The danger is that if we spend all this money and it doesn't work, we will look like failures who shouldn't be in charge of our economy either.

5. I agree.
This is being used by some to expand a lot of programs on one side, and to enlarge tax cuts on the other.
It's DC chicken at its best.

As Yogi said however, "Its gets late early out there."

6. I wonder where the serious people are.
I always used to think we were the smart ones and the Repubs weren't. Now I'm wondering if anyone has a clue up there.

I still have faith in Obama. I hope he can herd his cats better.

3. Obama has promised to strip down the excesses.
I find it sad that even Obama knows its full of extra stuff that won't act as a stimulus. Nancy Pelosi and David Obey made us look bad.

I always thought we would be better than the Republicans...now I realize we're just the other side of the coin. Its very disillusioning.

7. That cuts are not "money that will hit the system", tax cuts are money that never hits the system
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 07:45 AM by ThomWV
Let's get this straight - contrary to the utter bullshit that the Republicans have been spouting for over a decade Tax Cuts NEVER increase revnues. They never have and they never will. It was Ronald Reagan's biggest lie and its been growing ever since.
