Why the quite on the Holder front?
Eric Holder's nomination process has been held up for longer than any of Obama's other picks. Republicans are afraid that he will take steps leading to prosecution, they are afraid he will unveil more Bush illegality, turn over more stones. Republican's are reported, in the scant reporting we see on this matter, to be putting enormous pressure on the administration to insure he will neither investigate, prosecute, or turn over any more nasty stones. With near no fanfare the debate and vote for his nomination will come late this afternoon, while you are driving home, eating dinner, watching other news.

This is far and away the quietest nomination for a principal Cabinet post that I've ever seen and to be honest about it I find it very unnerving. I am also (once again) mighty curious what Harry Reed thought he was doing by not scheduling the vote last week, giving the Republicans another weekend to pressure Holder before the debate and vote.

2. I expect that the Repugs, over the course of the last 8 years, have
managed to implicate enough of the entrenched Dems for them to be truly complicit in what Holder might uncover.

It's an ugly ugly business.

4. Ugly indeed
Still, I have hope. I think Holder will do the right thing and consider that he should find support in the Committees. We've got Conyers and Sanchez (sp?) on one side to keep his feet to the fire and on the other side we've got Leahy, Feingold, and Whitehouse all of whom have made a public show of being incensed at recent goings on. It seems to me that all of our eggs are in this Holder basket and I for one would like to see it handled just a little bit better.

3. He'll Be Confirmed This Week...How About Hilda Solis...
She's up for Labor Secretary and is facing all sorts of opposition. The repugnicans are scared shit she'll push through Card Check and start uncovering all the cronyism that went on in that Department over the past 8 years.

Holder has the votes...Reid could have (and should have) pushed for a vote late last week, but at least it will happen. Short of them coming up with a picture of Holder and Marc Rich in bed, I don't see anything they can do to derail the nomination...I'm counting more than 60 votes to confirm.

Methinks Reid, like Pelosi are allowing the GOOP to make their noise and hope they once again overplay their position. This is what drove the repugnicans to 25% approval ratings. The more they obstruct the more people see whose standing in the way of progress...it's a gamble that has little upside except for the GOOP's dwindling base. The bottom line is all the GOOP has are these tactics and the more they use them the less effective they'll be.
