at that site are part of the stimulus package. What is there, are examples of what "Could" be achieved through the stimulus package.

49 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico made the list....New Hampshire not so much...I guess we'll just have to team up with ThomWV and the "Hosed States" contingent.....

2. This is totally made up
This is what a group of individuals decided was in the stimulus based on various programs suggested by different cities and states. No money has been specifically targeted in the bill, not one project that I'm aware of.

5. true
it looks like a list of requested monies to be spent on the following list of improvements. and if NH doesn't have anything on the list, it's because no one there has requested any money for a specific task.

13. I agree that no money has been specifically targeted.
But, these are projects that could start quickly.

Look at the bigger picture. If you put one person to work they can start taking their family out to dinner again. The waiter gets a tip. They can buy groceries.

Trickle UP.

Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 09:36 AM by sandnsea
I'm not arguing the value of any given local project - I'm saying that this site is a fraud because these people have no idea what project will be funded.

Look at the people in this thread who think these are the guaranteed projects that are coming. They aren't. How cruel.

Not your fault, damn these people for putting up this phony web site.

45. *shovel ready* can also mean pork on the run
I went through my area, and many of those construction jobs amounted to re-surfacing roads that don't NEED to be re-surfaced. In the wealthier areas, naturally.

41. from an email I received (open government list)
I think the OP isn't correct in calling this *the* Stimulus package watch site --

"Stimulus Watch is based on the U.S. Conference of Mayors' catalog of
projects. The mayors' report was issued to give Congress an estimate
of how much it should appropriate for the various federal programs
that will in turn disburse the funds to localities. The mayors asked
for a lot ($26 billion for CDBG, for example) but Congress is not
going to give them that much (they're only setting aside an extra $1
billion for CDBG)."

and it continues:

"The question now is, which of the mayors' proposed 10,000+ projects
will the Obama agencies fund? Which are the critical ones? Although
funding decisions are often done by formula, President Obama has
promised to invest the stimulus money wisely, and not on projects with
a low return. That is where our site comes in. It will gather local
knowledge about these projects and will help keep the administration
accountable about which projects they fund. Once funded I hope the
site can keep local officials accountable on spending the money."

4. no jobs for 57 yr old women
anyway, again, it looks to me like a temporary fix. Until Obama addresses the bleeding of all the jobs to other countries, this will only last for so long. he needs to force the corporations to bring all the jobs back to the US and he needs to cut their golden parachutes and tax the hell out of them. and he needs to keep them from benefitting from offshore accounts. Until then, this is a great idea but it wont last long. oh, and nationalize the banks.

She has a nice office and never has to touch a shovel.

Other jobs in her office:

Purchasing
Accounting
Clerical
Project Manager
CEO (yes her boss is a women)

Creating construction jobs puts a lot of people back to work.

34. I was actually referring to the listings
on the OP's referenced website. The listings in my area were for people who work building new roads. My problem with such stimulus projects is that it's tilted too much toward one area - construction. I'm not trying to deny construction workers jobs but there are lots of other job areas, such as IT, such as manufacturing, that should be included in the job portion of the stimulus package. Anyway, I was being specific to my area.

I hope like hell that this is just a tentative list. This area is so desperate for jobs, and just generally in need of some of this stimulus, that I can't believe we are being left out of the mix.

23. Un Fucking Believable - West Virginia gets 1 project, worth $700k employing 20 people
And I have neighbors (about 20 households) just down the road from me that have been fighting for 10 years to get city water. The project requires extending a fucking pipe one half mile along a long existant right of way. Six months out of the year these people have to bring their water to the house in tanks on the back of pick up trucks. You tell me something isn't dead ass wrong here.

29. CLARIFICATION: The projects listed are NOT in the stimulus bill.
But, they are projects that are "Shovel Ready". It just gives you an idea of how many jobs can be created.

$850,000,000,000.00 goes a long way.

This list was compiled from the U.S. Conference of Mayors' report.

2. Why these projects? Why the U.S. Conference of Mayors' report?

First and foremost, the Mayor's report presented an opportunity for citizens to engage with their government. The U.S. Conference took the laudable step of posting online a complete, detailed, and well-formatted list of projects and related data. This made it easy for us to take the data and use it for the site you see here. These projects are also worth scrutinizing. To what extent do these projects reflect what citizens want or need for their communities? The list provides an opportunity for citizens to provide useful feedback to their elected officials. This discussion can help monitor funds and also rate the extent to which projects 'hit their marks'.

cincy, lovin it.

among some of the goodies in store for us:

High Solar Reflectance Roofs. Grants for high SRIs

Cincinnati Streetcar Network

MetroWest Phase II project. Total costs for site preparation and construction of a 60,000 square foot light industrial building would be approximately $6.8 million that would create 80-100 FTE permanent jobs. Project located in Lower Price Hill neighbor

and a whole slew of enviro-friendly renovations, public school improvements, and road construction and repair.

anyone that has ever been to Cincy would underestand how excited i would be about road repair...
