Bright Red Glasses---Tom Daschle
Red Glasses

In October 2008 Daschle began to regularly wear bright red glasses. He stated that this was done to show his solidarity with the fight for women's heart health and to symbolize change in America's political landscape.

1. And what has Tom done or will Tom do
to see that all women who need cardiac care actually get it?

3. Yeah but he is wearing red
glasses. That will work ,nothing else needs to be done. In fact I think I will get some pink ones and that should take care of my breast cancer.

4. that's weird
He wears red glasses to support the health of my heart? Why only women's heart health? Heart health and changes to our political landscape? Huh?

Tom, it's ok to wear red glasses simply because you like red. Not everything requires symbolism and deeper meaning.

8. Women often experience "atypical" symptoms when having heart trouble
I use the quotation marks because since millions of women experience them that actually makes them typical for women, just different from men but that's a topic for another post.

Instead of the classic acute chest pain and pain in the left arm often associated with heart attack many women may feel

* a vague feeling of anxiety or impending doom
* unusual weakness
* dizziness
* cold sweats
* indigestion

Women's heart disease is greatly under-diagnosed. This is why it requires special awareness and attention.

10. thank you for the information
I read that women were under-diagnosed, but I never knew what symptoms to look for. I wonder why our symptoms are so different. What troubles me most is even after reading the list, I'm not sure I would instantly think "go to the hospital, something is wrong with your heart" if I experienced any of the symptoms. Scary.

13. You're very welcome. It is scary. There are a few theories about why the symptoms are different
women, but nothing's been really nailed down that I know of.

11. I had a scare a while back with a drug reaction. Ended up in ER but the thing I
was impressed with was the first thing they did was check my heart.It was a woman dr. so I was wondering if that was why. Turned out to be a drug reaction from a new Rx.

6. Lenses or frames?
If it's the lenses that are red, then it's a lot easier to avoid seeing all the red ink on the books.

16. If you "Google" you see the "round red frames." Totally Weird, IMHO...
But, then, Daschle's always been weird to me after watching Hearings when he was Senate Leader and he CAVED...OVER AND OVER and OVER. And now, Harry Reid (Daschle's Second in Command) has left Dems in the Dust OVER AND OVER...because he's so "Sceeered" of "FILIBUSTER" from Repugs.

Daschle is a puny guy who rides on his Lobbyist Wife's Coatails.

17. Sorry. Tom
... but you DON'T wear red frames when you're working on Capitol Hill. Especially when no one (except for a few) knows WHY you're wearing those red frames. He may be trying to symbolize something, or he just has incredibly bad taste. Either way, he's not getting his point across. So stop it, Tom.
