2. No.
No one should reward this womans sick behavior. As much as I'd like to see the fundies walk the walk - this loon should'nt get a penny from anyone.

7. She supported 6 just fine...
and chose to have 8 more. If she knowingly had a litter that she cant afford she's an unfit mother and the kids would be better off somewhere else and with someone who's a little less, you know, insane.

12. did *she* actually support the first 6?
I haven't read much on this (I'm just revolted with the circus), but IIRC she's a student and her father has been the support of the first six. Has any reporter dug in to try to find out how much the state of California has already paid out in aid?

15. hmmm. Good point. We already know she lives with parents...
I dont know the details of where the money has come from but if she's a student, I doubt it was *her*. What the hell kind of sick individual pulls a stunt like this?! And who the hell paid for that fertility treatment?! :wtf:

18. You know, of course, whatever her mental problem is, that this woman only wanted 1 baby.
Perhaps her belief in not eliminating (a nice euphemism) some of the embryos is as strong to her as probably most here at DU would be to allow a woman a choice. Evidently the caveat with that is she must make the choice we prefer. It really makes me ashamed to be a Democrat when I read somebody who is supposed to also be a Democrat call a mentally ill person "insane". It's ironic because many right wingers consider Democrats to be insane just for holding the beliefs we hold.

19. okay, WHERE in all the articles does she say she just wanted *one*?
Seriously, is there a link anywhere?

She had *6* previously. She had (has) dreams of being a TV *mommy* expert. I'm more inclined to believe the IVF was done *for* multiples, as a way of kick-starting her *career*. What better way to jump to the front page of the tabloid freakshow than pop out a litter?

21. Oh come on.
The SPCA is more responsible about the adoption of abandoned pets than this woman and her "doctor" are about reproducing. And I cant believe you're giving me that 'only wanted 1 baby' crap. "Oops... I only wanted one but since I chose to carry a litter to term I guess I might as well demand money and free shit". Please.

As for the word "insane" - I dont understand your issue with it. Like somehow its worse than "mentally ill". Insane = not sane.

28. she also CHOSE to endanger herself and 8 other human beings
since she CHOSE not to abort any, she also CHOSE to support them without coming to the taxpayers or anybody else for handouts.

if she "only wanted one" (when she already had six and was bankrupt and living at home w mommy & daddy at the age of 33), why did she not abort the others? spare me her "beliefs." she had no right to saddle the rest of us (the tazpayers) with her "beliefs."

if she wanted so many babies, why didn't she adopt a few dozen??

or should we say, oh, what a lovely sacrifice, to act as an incubator for even more babies on this already overcrowded planet, and with no visible means of support, to allow everybody else the pleasure, the joy, of taking care of HER "choices"?

should we say, HER "choices" MUST take precedence over the already born, highly miserable, suffering parentless children living in squalor and abuse and neglect? because that is exactly what this stupid, selfish, self-centered, irresponsible, unthinking termite queen did--distract and divert RESOURCES from people who are suffering and in need.

it would have been sooo much kinder and humane to buy the stupid breeder a couple dozen Baby Alive Sip n Slurp baby dolls. When she got tired of them, as she will when her current bundles of joy get past the baby stage, she could throw them in the trash and get some new ones. Let's see . . . 2 dozen dollies x $29.95 = $718.80. Even the incompetent, deranged, self-absorbed baby-mill could pony up that amount and not burden us and the planet with her stupidity.

4. A lot of anti-abortionists I know are opposed to IVF
and she used IVF, so I don't know if they would.

I certainly don't want to support her. I just had a baby. Someone can send me stuff. Even an eighth of what she asked for would be fine. :D

6. Ab-so-freaking-lutely!! If children are such a blessed gift from god
then the church ought to bankroll 'em.

After all it is christianity that teaches have as many kids as you possibly can. And has come real close to codifying that into law.

8. One of the arguments they use is "gods will".
If abortion and birth control is sinful for thwarting gods will by preventing births why is IVF OK for bringing life to an otherwise barren womb? Both use science to change the natural outcome of reproductive activity.

God didn't get her pregnant, IVF did.

Of course there's a whole discussion that could ensue from this point on about God's will, free will, and all that, but she made her choice.

Given that she's the child of immigrants and her last name is Suleman, I think they would probably favor bombing her.

24. It's nice that we finally have an issue on which the left and the right may come together.
The left can say, "she should have eliminated some of those embryos and we don't want to pay for all of those kids for that unfit mother". The right can say, "thank God she didn't kill any of those babies, but we don't want to pay for all of those kids for that unfit welfare mother".

If this woman had given birth to just one baby it would have been a non-story. We would never have known the circumstances of that baby's birth and so we wouldn't have this grand opportunity to stand in judgment upon this mother, who does appear to be mentally ill, and to call her "unfit" or "insane" (we really sink to RW level when we call a mentally ill person "insane") as the babies are mockingly referred to as a "litter". Guess what? Those babies are living human beings and nobody knows for sure what their future or potential may be anymore than any other baby. Some children born into great circumstances turn out to be terrible while there are those who most would say are born to fail that turn out great. Can anyone here predict this with absolute certainty? How many here would have liked to see themselves written off at birth because of their mother's choice ("choice", as Democrats we are supposed to like choice, aren't we?).

It makes me ashamed to be a Democrat to read some of the statements and attitudes I have read here about this woman by people who claim to be compassionate Democrats. Sad.

26. you STILL haven't provided the link to where she STATED she wanted *one*.
Sorry -- I'm not buying the guilt trip.

My OB was a specialist in multiples and potential problem babies (genetic problems, etc.). I became close to several women who tried for YEARS to get pregnant naturally, and were only able to get pregnant with IVF. And then they were under constant medical scrutiny, praying that nothing would happen, that they would be blessed to finally have ONE baby. ONE HEALTHY BABY.

These couples spent THOUSANDS of dollars, went through YEARS of frustration and agony, to have a family. They emptied their bank accounts, went through whatever psychological scrutiny they had to go through - just to have a kid. It was heartbreaking to watch.

And then we have this two-legged baby mill, who gets an AGENT and starts putting out feelers for multi-million dollar DEALS within a WEEK of giving birth?

And *I'M* supposed to be ashamed for making comments? Oh puh-leeze spare me! I have all the respect in the world for people who DESERVE my respect. This woman is the worst type of gold-digger on the planet. THOSE children are her ticket to *stardom*. At least in HER mind.

29. headline on #1: Report: Octuplets Mother Wants to Cash In by Selling Story
in addition, her mother SAYS she wanted "just one more girl."
First, what does that prove? Her mother can say whatever she wants to try to make her daughter "look better." From everything else the mother has said, she's virtually admitted her daughter is batshit crazy and made a terrible decision. Her mother has even expressed a desire to leave her daughter before she brings the litter home.

Second, how "natural"--to have a bunch of embryos planted to "ensure" that "one" would be "a girl."
(anybody know the sex of these babies?).

why would someone with no income, living at home with M&D, with SIX young children already, want even ONE more baby? what happens when she wants "just one more boy"?

but I think the headline at the top of the google picks says it best: she's a gold-digger without a conscience, without a care in the world for anybody but herself. How can any of those 14 children get any quality parenting at all.

By the way, why aren't you rushing to wherever she is to help take care of those little bundles of joy? You're so "concerned" about them--how much money have you sent? how many hours a week are you devoting to their care?
