1. I know someone there
who has decided she hates Obama because he hasn't sent FEMA in. I have no idea what FEMA would be required to do there, walk around with leaf blowers and melt the ice? Hand out cups of coffee? Or, since they're still using Chertoff's disaster manual, seal off the state like ice is somehow contagious and prevent help from getting in?

The state has been declared a disaster area and the National Guard, or what's left of them, have been called in for cleanup. A lot of people probably won't have power for a week or more.

Huddling in front of a fireplace loses its cozy thrill after about the first two days. Been there, done that.

Gov: FEMA Helping Kentucky

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear says the Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing massive amounts of fuel for generators being used in Kentucky due to power outages caused by a massive winter storm.

Beshear spoke to the media briefly Sunday after touring a makeshift shelter in Elizabethtown that is housing some 200 displaced residents.

Beshear said as of Saturday night nearly 2,500 of the state's 4,600 Army National Guard troops and airmen had reported for duty. He said part of the delay in others showing up is that phone
service is down in some parts of the state.

4. Thank you for asking.
Things are improving. We had major melting over the weekend. I am in Central Ky. We are starting to get back
to normal. We lost a lot of branches and one tree in our yard, but never lost our power.
Clean up is going to be a big job. KY still has over 250K without power and some will not see any
for over two weeks. Our national guard has been great, full mobilization. They are concentrated in
the western part of the state which was hit even harder.

5. Hi there, Big Blue Marble. Has the NG been in your area? How are they helping out?
So glad you didn't lose your power!

11.  They were in our area this weekend.
Checking to see who has does not have power and if they are OK, also clearing the streets of fallen trees and branches.
They were here in 03 when we had the last big ice storm. They were great then too.

6. Thank you for asking!
My elderly parents and 95 y.o. grandmother live outside of Lexington. Thankfully, none of them lost power...but people just down the street did. They've just been hunkered down for the past few days. I wouldn't want to be at my parents house right now, as I'm sure cabin fever is setting in, and they're trying enough when it's 70 degrees and sunny.

8. My company has a branch office in KY
I was talking to one of the guys there and its nuts. Half the city (Lexington) doesnt have power, or working water, the airport is completely shut down, the roads are closed, it is a huge mess. They had to completely close the office and send people home because of the road conditions last week.

9. I've never lived in a place subject to closures like that. Even when my house
slid during Loma Prieta, most of us just went back to work the next day.

I hope all your guys check in.

10. They're all fine as far as I know.
A couple of them are heading out here this weekend so I should get a full report of what is going on there. I'll definitely know more then.
