Tell me what you know about the Free Staters and some other
group called Advantage America or something like that...a Tax Cap group. I am asking because I live in NH and heard some pretty scarey stories about the Free Staters this weekend. I did go on their website which was creepier than FreeRepublic. They have a headquarters in Keene which is the next town from me and, I told, are trying to make inroads into my town.

3. Free Staters are a bunch of wacko
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 08:24 PM by MineralMan
"libertarians" who decided that they'd move into NH, take over, starting with local government, and run things their way. They were trying for about 50,000 people. They ended up with a couple thousand. Most hate everyone, including their fellow Free Staters.

Their problem is that there is a surplus of part-time Linux consultants out there, so there's not much for them to do. They want a world with virtually no government, with everything privately owned, from police to fire departments.

Wackos, one and all.

The other two I don't know about, but you can count on them being whack-jobs too, I'm sure.

4. Lots of "Advantage America" hits on Google,
but they're all sorta different. There is a scam, though, from an Advantage America which purports to be offering government grants, but is really a phishing deal, where they get your information then rip you off. I don't know if that's the one. There's also a health insurance company by that name.

There is a New Hampshire based anti tax group called New Hampshire Advantage. Their goal appears to be to put caps on local and state taxes, via legislation. Sounds like an offshoot of the Free Staters.

5. Okay, what little i know....
The Free Staters first appeared on my radar in the local papers here about 10 years back. The paper presented them as a kind of libertarian movement whose goal was to attract as many people of like mind as possible with the stated goal of moving en mass to a state with the smallest possible population with the goal to infiltrate and eventually control the politics of the entire state.

That's about it. After 10 years I have seen no sign that they control more than a few local seats in a few small towns. So far both their movement towards immigration and their ideals have failed to take fire.

While I find them so far ineffectual, I also continue to keep an eye out for reports of any strengthening. After all, my greatest shock since moving here was not in learning we had one-but in fact meeting the Grand Wizard of the NH KKK.
