Pope to Announce New Archbishop of New York
Source: Newsmax

Pope Benedict XVI is set to announce a new Archbishop of New York to replace Cardinal Edward Egan, an informed Vatican source tells Newsmax.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source says the decision was made today and an announcement is expected “within the next week to ten days”. He says Cardinal Egan’s successor is from the “conservative and orthodox” wing of the Church.

Speculation on the next leader of the New York Archdiocese, one of the most important posts in the U.S. Roman Catholic Church, has been going on for some time among church-watchers.

Cardinal Egan, 76, submitted his resignation in 2007 when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 75, but the Pope asked him to stay on in the post. Many commentators saw Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to New York last year as a final farewell to the cardinal.

1. He's apparently trying to decide
between a pedophile and a Nazi -- such a hard choice.

2. Wrong...the candidate just needs to be ...
as secretive as a pedophile and authoritarian as a Nazi.

Dick Cheney would have been perfect but he's married and loves reporter/bloggers in whitey tighties. So he's only got 3/4's of the qualifications.

3. 'Conservative and Orthodox' is expected
Along with a my way or the highway approach to run the Archdiocese (see the new one at St Paul/Mpls who is also a company man).

Expect some out of the world statements soon after the transition period is over. When you push for 'conservative and orthodox' you often end up at Out of Touch. Anything outside the word for word official line is disregard or attacked. :puke:

Why is Newsmax breaking this?

4. England & Mexican examples:
Nationalize the church and let the parishioners vote on their archbishop. If Henry VIII and the Mexican Revolution could do it, maybe, perhaps, the USA could also. We'd have elections even if the others don't.

7. He keeps losing Catholics here so it better be a good, young, progressive, pick...
they are trying to close churches in my neck of the woods. Those formally ministered to mainstream Catholics & now the new immigrants from So.America & Mexico. Egan's policy was close those in the city and build a new un-needed white church in the suburbs. It went over like a wet fart around here.
