The nice thing about the GOP's stimulus "alternative"

I live in a red state and I have a friend who has many friends, small business owners, who typically vote republican. They are all up in arms about the GOP's alternative stimulus package. To a man, they all agree- giving them tax cuts isn't going to do any good if their customers have no money to spend. They're already paying lower taxes because their income has dropped tremendously during this recession.

They also agree that Obama's plan needs to be passed, and that the GOP blustering and posturing in an attempt to block the bill is a waste of time and is, in the long run, hurtful to the country.

For years the GOP has lived on the mantra of lower taxes. Now they're stuck. The small businesses that they pretend to support see no benefit in the GOP's plan and they have become disillusioned by the idiocy of the republicans who still hold office.

I'm betting that the more moderate voters who leaned to the right will be jumping ship and the GOP will lose even more support. That will leave them with an even smaller voter base and, potentially, a permanent minority in government on all levels.

1. tell them to get off their asses and contact their representative

and tell the rep what they told you.

Hey, if Howie Long can try to "stimulate the economy" by, in essence, calling drivers of other trucks pussies, then these small business owners could grow some and confront their representative.

2. I am seeing the same thing. I live on a barrier island where one

of the bridges has a sign posted for 10 miles each way, "No overweight truck permits." After the bridge collapse in MN, people are looking at it saying "WTF?" And since they have moved from the Jackals of Journalism to the web for their news, they watch as water pipes break, bridges collapse and levees break in LA and TN.

The new mantra here is "infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure." Their main gripe with the Democratic plan is not enough is being spent on infrastructure.

3. This is why 2010 will be such a blowout.

We are nowhere near finished with the much-needed purge of the Limbaugh-Palin Party from our government. Fortunately, the R's are helping bring about their own demise by continuing to advocate failed policies and making ridiculous statements in public.

Democrats complain that it runs up deficits. Republicans bitch that it wasn't big enough. So you see, no one likes a tax cut.
