What great fun to comtemplate leaving this wonderful US of A.
Most of us can't wait to find a way out. Why? Why are so many "natives" of the US looking to find ways to flee South? Why are so many Hispanics looking to flee North. I hate this country and what we have become.

you really need to educate youself beyond the superficial.

5. We stand on the verge of taking our country back -- or losing it altogether
This liminal space is very scary, but so far I'm still here. I love my country; everyone and everything I love is here.

really owned? Give it up. Do the right thing.

YOU HAVE NOTHING< ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO LOSE!

I love my country. I hate this administration and the people who support it. The "right thing" is a matter of opinion as is "nothing to lose".

7. escape from america
I've already left. If you need any help let me know. The expat communities around the world I've met are pretty much great and progressive. There are a few exeptions e.g. military people, missionaries ect.

12. RESOLVE
I had two people I knew who were contemplating a move to New Zealand after the '04 election. They didnt want anything more to do with the usa or especially the south. This couple lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. They have been in New Zealand for just over one year now. Now that's resolve.

Moving abroad is not re inventing the wheel. its just taking the first step most people can't get over. Trust me its worth it. Just do your homework.

I'm currently in Seoul now. Totally love it. every day is an adventure. great country. good people too.

Believe me, there's not as many yahoos here as you'd like to believe.

Most people here are decent, hard-working and kind. Yes, there are some pockets of fundie-nuts, but, hell, they're everywhere, including Canada, of all places, now.

you all deserve an America again.
so do I.

I live 2 hour's driving distance from the border.

I wish we didn't have to come to this.

but agreed. hang in there. we are on a serious brink. the good always overcomes the evil even if more slowly than we like.

milosevic rotted in the hague

others will rot in the hague who's names begin with Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Gonzales.

we need the good people to stay here to rebuild our own war torn country.

if we invade iran, I'll meet all of you at the border! ; 0

13. What greater fun to contemplate
staying and fighting to take our country back from the treasonous bastards.

I am staying because it is my country and I love it. I am staying because I am a Democrat. Democrats want everyone to have the opportunity for the good life. We don't flee or put our rights above the rights of everyone else.

I am saddened by what we have become. I am using my skills to help fix it.

What are you doing? Are you running for office? Are you involved in grassroots politics or activism? Do you write LTTEs or guest editorials? Do you have a skill, like bookkeeping or the ability to create and maintain a website for a political group? Are you good at fundraising? How about using what you have instead of turning tail and running?

17. What?
"Find a way out"? Are there armed guards barring your path? Do you have to get over or through a Berlin wall? What is stopping you from leaving?

And as for the ""natives"", did you have numbers to indicate that many people are looking to flee, or flee South? And as for the Hispanic mystery, well, gosh, do you think it has something to do with the money to be made and the quality of life here? You know, the quality of life you seek to flee?

I can't tell if your post is sarcasm, or designed to elicit a response, or genuine, but if it is genuine, then fine. You've told us all how miserable you are. Fine. If you hate this country, then why are you here? And our country has done some wrong, mis-guided, and stupid, stupid things: but we have not "become" anything that we already weren't: a great county that has made some mistakes. All of us are here (and on the right-wing blogs too) to make this country a better place, even when we disagree violently as to what that is. If you don't want to help, again--why are you here?

19. I have seriously comtemplated leaving this country...
..To Germany. I do not hate this country, I hate to fucking assholes that are destroying it a little more everyday. Scandinavia is pretty nice, large population of Atheist there, my kind of place; its rather not suprising that the least religious place on Earth is actually the most progressive...

But I have things that I do not want to put through that ordeal of moving to another country, pets I love like familiy that I will not abandon either.

21. Leaving accomplishes nothing in my view
perhaps it's just my New England blood, but I would rather stay and fight for my country rather then give up everything my forefathers fought to build. Once upon a time defeating King George seemed an impossible dream. It was not. Nor is it this time.

22. I've been saying that I want to leave for years now.
But can't because of my husbands job. We need that pension from his Union job, so we will stick it out for another 11 years.

If life on this planet exists in 11 years that is, what with how fast the PTB are destroying it. :scared:

I'm pretty sure you can renounce your citizenship with the State Department. However, you won't be allowed back into the country and you won't legally be able to buy a gun anymore, but that may actually be a good thing.

25. Regardless of who's in power, my paycheck goes toward war.
I can't live with that much longer. The cognitive dissonance isn't healthy.

I work all year so that my income tax can support the largest military budget in the world (by far).

It doesn't matter who's in the White House, either. Democrat or Republican, my being here supports death and destruction, rather than defense.

That's going to stop soon.

Some do do that. Keyboard warriors of all stripes exist. But some of us think, research, contemplate and then act in 1 manner or another. Frustration is fine but broadbrushing isn't.

Everything I really care about is here in NY, but looking at the history of this country.. it never really was anything I would be proud of. Its always been run by the wealthy to supplement their own greed.. thats just the way any government works I suppose.
