Mother of Octuplets Finds Her Meal Ticket
"Whittier mother Nadya Suleman and her eight week-old babies are entertaining offers from media outlets around the world as they decide who will land the first interview and snap the first pictures.

Suleman retained Los Angeles publicists Michael Furtney and Joann Killeen on Friday and since then, the agents said they had fielded dozens of interview requests and offers for book, film and television deals. Some media reports have speculated that Suleman might be paid as much as $2 million for an interview, but Furtney said, "The money itself is not the object."

Is this going to be a new industry? Make lots of babies and get paid for doing so?

1. Dionne Quints redux...
Well, not quite, in that it's the mother exploiting the kids, and not the state. But the kids are still gonna be the revenue stream.

18. Absolutely agree. There should laws on the number of kids to have at one time..
This is greed and it is taking away from those who can't or won't have children but want them.

30. We don't really need laws against it
What do you think the penalty should be for mothers who have too many children?

That sounds a little too totalitarian for me. There are ways to encourage responsible reproduction (in tax law, for example) without going so far as to criminalize childbirth.

Yeah, I know you're going to say its the folks who watch/buy the media and that is true, but it's also the drug pushing parasites who market to all of these dumbasses.

16. And unfortunately...
there are probably just enough dumbasses out there willing to pay for seeing those photos or reading her story to make it profitable for her and the media whores.

And it's not just the "Pro life" Conservative crazies...it's also the "Isn't it nice that she can CHOOSE to have whole litters of kids" Democrats too.

:puke:

That woman deserves to be jailed for the rest of her childbearing years.

27. You are exactly right!
I've noticed a lot of posts on DU sympathizing with this woman's right to choose.

I don't think that mega-birthing should be confused with the issue of the right of choice.

This is not about her right to choose. It's about her responsibility to those children after they are born because of her choice, etc. She is already using those children as props for anything that will make her a buck.

10. I'm very torn over this
On the one hand there's the apparent inability of the mother to understand what she's done and on the other there are all those innocent children. I hope she does find a meal ticket, because it's the only way she has to take care of those children.

Although I suspect that eventually the children will become wards of the state simply because they'll have to. This situation has a very small chance of having a happy ending.

19. One report I read alleged these were four sets of identical twins
The doctor or somebody from the fertility agency said she was "overstimulated" and four embryos turned into eight. I've never heard of a process that would create identical twins--surely somebody would have done it by now if it could be done (but with just a twin pregnancy, not a litter). If it's true that these are four sets of identical twins that is the only thing that would elevate the story to a level that I think the mother is reaching for.

that while he lived on the downlow in South America, Josef Mangele may have figured out a way to induce identical twins and used an unsuspecting town as his "lab".

21. This proves once again how 'nuts' this country is. Those who control the media, control our lives.
And they are making offers to interview this woman. Why is her story of being turned into an incubator worth $2 million? She has shown nothing to be admired. She has shown she has no concern about herself, her kids, her state, nor the world. She has endangered the lives of 8 innocent babies, who still may not survive or may all end up with severe physical/mental disabilities.

Why don't we have the media offering $$$ to those who have lost everything in the past 8 years? Why is there no real news about what is taking place in this country?

No, we have CEOs of banks that don't understand why they shouldn't get multi-million dollar bonuses for destroying the economy. We have companies paying out millions for 30-second commercials during the Super Bowl. We still lavish time and money for stories of celebs, politicians, and sports figures. The hell with the real world known to rest of the us.

How is having babies for money any different than having babies to sell them, really? Their only value is what they can fetch on the market, to this woman.

23. Eight Misbehavin'

"Eight Misbehavin'" is the seventh episode of the eleventh season of The Simpsons. It aired on November 21, 1999. The episode's story is loosely based on those of the McCaughey septuplets and Dionne quintuplets. The title is a parody of the famous song "Ain't Misbehavin'".

The family visits Shøp, a Swedish furniture store chain, and when they eat there, they meet Apu and Manjula. They say that they would like to have a baby. They eventually do, and Manjula gives birth to octuplets because the Simpsons and Apu slipped her fertility drugs (some of which were eaten by Homer). It makes headlines across Springfield, with local companies giving the Nahasapeemapetilons free products. However, their feat is eclipsed when a family in Shelbyville give birth to nine babies (All of the gifts given to the Nahasapeemapetilons were instantly revoked upon the hearing of the Shelbyville birth). After the feat is made, Apu and Manjula have to deal with raising eight kids all at once.

25. and the reckless breeding continues
I put some of the blame on TLC for promoting this type of behavior. If it weren't for their obsession with making celebrities out of baby machines, she would not be holding her litter for ransom demanding cash for her stupidity. Now many more will see this as an easy meal ticket and attempt the same stunt.
