I sure hope so.

Blago got impeached for a lot of reasons. He may or may not have tried to sell Obama's seat. I'm glad he's gone. But the appointment of Obama's replacement was a mess and the Senate now has a caretaker instead of an actual senator (maybe that isn't a bad thing, but that's for another thread by someone else).

Paterson's appointment of Gillibrand is just plain bizarre ....... or logical (if not legal) evidence of a back room deal someplace.

Now we get Gregg's seat. How can we not say that there was no quid pro quo when the governor and Gregg himself say the seat will go to a Republican? Is that not a deal? We ALL know that Dems appoint Dems and Reps appoint Reps.

This is just bullshit. NONE of this had ONE FUCKING THING to do with what THE PEOPLE wanted.

1. This is a similar problem to the Presidential election
each state is has a separate election process and the appointments are part of the election process.

I am sure the original intent was to fill vacancies expeditiously so the state would have maximum representation in Congress. But then enters the human element of greed.

I doubt it could be mandated at the federal level how vacancies would be filled.

2. I wonder what Lynch got out of it.
Perhaps he's eying that seat himself. Whatever. I wish he'd just switch parties and stop pretending.

3. It won't be easy - I think this is governed by state laws. Which means
each state needs to change their laws.
