20. If You Have Rooftop
then there shouldn't be a problem.

This was for my little TV in the kitchen. Old ears weren't strong enough - yours might be okay.

25. Not necessarily true.
We have rooftop - receive a viewable analog transmission, but the digital signal is not powerful enough to render a viewable image on more than one station reliably, a second off and on, and a third if I stand just right and don't move.

28. Well Then
I stand corrected - go get the cheap one I got from Radio Shack - worked like a charm. Keep the receipt just in case.

30. Yeah, I'm highly annoyed.
Once they all play musical frequencies, and are broadcasting at their post switchover strength, it is possible things will improve.

Otherwise, if it still doesn't work after the switchover I get to climb on the roof in February (probably in the middle of an ice storm if the rest of this winter is any indication) to see if replacing the antenna will make a difference. June would be so much pleasanter a time to discover out we really do need a new rooftop antenna.

22. The thing I like about rabbit ears is
you can just get up and turn them if the station's not coming in clearly.

Free yes, no picture on most channels I can currently receive - even with existing rooftop, set top antenna and amplifier.

12. Only for DVD's
I use my telly only for DVD's. The rest of the time, it sits, unplugged in the corner under a dust cloth.

Though once a year, I'll watch broadcast telly for the Oscars. A guilty pleasure that's grown less pleasing with the years. So I won't be missing anything.

I did get the converter coupon, then saw the 90 day expiration date. It seemed fishy, so I decided to save even more money and not buy one at all.

13. Nothing...
Already have a digital capable TV, but I am ditching cable and don't really plan on watching OTA broadcasts. I'm getting all of my media via the internet these days thanks to Hulu, Netflix, and *cough* other means.

I guess I did upgrade to a buisness class internet account to get rid of the 250 GB cap that comcast has, but after ditching cable service, it ends up being cheaper than regular internet + cable.

15. I Watch On My Puter...

http://www.fusionhdtv.co.kr/ENG/Products/

This turns any puter into a DTV...and if you have a 6:9 monitor it does a pretty good job with HDTV as well...also will work with digital cable systems (no box needed). And it costs around $100. Sure beats the big bucks for a wide screen. It also can be used as a DVR.

32. How exactly does that work??
Is the programing like regular digital cable/satellite tv only its streamed over the internet? Monthly payments too?

33. It Connects Via USB...
It connects to the puter and has its own software. You connect either an antenna for over-the-air reception or you can plug it into the wall if you have cable and it will pull off the unencripted channels on your system. No monthy costs. You're basically buying just the tuner...since you already have the monitor and audio in your puter.

The neat thing is it makes DTV portable. I use it on my laptop and can watch outside during the warm weather or have taken it on the road and watched TV in other cities.

The newer versions connect online to get you the latest TV guide...but the signal you're receiving is the same as if you were using a wide screen.

Hope that helps...

Cheers...

16. Other....bought 2 converter boxes and a digital replacement TV,
then discovered my expensive rooftop antenna doesn't receive UHF signals. A new one will have to wait.

Still hoping for a delay.

23. Bought the boxes and an antenna, found I had 25+ local stations available...
then called and canceled DirecTV. The one-time, $80 investment saves me $85/month.

Even if I didn't have access to the S.O.'s full cable package, I'd still do it.

24. you could have better poll options
For example, "Got/have/will get cable TV service" doesn't allow us to tell how many people have actually been inconvenienced by the switch. I'd like to see "already have cable or satellite" versus "decided to get cable or satellite because of the switch."

27. Other: New TV and U-Verse
The old TV had an increasingly funky picture anyway, and the bundle from AT&T was pretty reasonable.

29. Stopped watching TV 4 years ago.
The local lineup for Comcast (they have a monopoly) sucks ass and I refuse to pay that kind of money for crap. They promised to upgrade their service "within six months," but that was five or six years ago.

My TVs are in storage. They are the old kind, anyway, so I plan to get rid of them.

I use the Internet to watch programs.

31. Other: Have good HDTV hooked up to a computer. No TV service for me...
I had enough brainwashing by establishment media back in USSR. No need to repeat the experience now.
Unsubscribed in 2002 after being shocked by US war propaganda.
