12. Missed them.
I'm neither pro nor anti gun, just common sense. PETA can be little extreme sometimes with all the current issues we are dealing with.

5. Anti the way peta does some things and some of their stances/ideals
Pro freedom to own a scary gun, pro freedom to be able to decide if we want to go to bar that does not allow smoking, or one that does, freedom to go to a movie theater that allows alcohol sales or one that doesn't.

Basically REAL pro choice.

27. Completely agree
I support the right to own firearms and am appalled at most knee-jerk reactions from NRA when any common sense proposal is mentioned (and yes I admit many gun control proposals are not sensible).

And I certainly do not condone mistreatment of animal and fully support the humane societies. I don't like PETA really for two reasons. First, they don't seem to understand that humans are omnivores; and second, their tactics frequently bother me.

29. It's not just that I don't like PETA.
It's that I actually think they're hurting their own cause by continually pulling idiotic stunts. I know plenty of people - good liberals that support animal rights - that won't even really talk about their positions with other people simply because they don't want to get labeled a PETA supporter. Or, just as bad, they have to sidetrack any valid points they have with a repudiation of PETA and their tactics.

They've become so toxic that it becomes difficult to defend their core principles.

I'm serious ...I bought the last 3 boxes of Luger 9mm at one super store after calling everyone of them in Tampa bay.

But I can't say that I'm really in the PETA point of view. I eat some beef for diner, sorry.I don't like guns, and the constitutional reason apart, I just don't understand why the american people are so obsess for their guns.

23. Reminds me of the first time I went deer hunting.

I spent a lot of time in the woods, and knew a spot the deer moved through at a certain time of the day. So when hunting season came around I loaded up the rifle and snuck up on the deer (sitting in a tree stand is not hunting**). Sighted in.

Then realized that I had absolutely no interest in killing the damn things.

So I love "hunting", but have no interest in "killing". Hating the taste of venison takes away the food motive as well.

**When you're hunting for your socks, do you lie in ambush***? When you're hunting for a job, do you hope someone shows up at the door with an offer? No! Hunting means getting out and actively tracking down whatever it is you want. Sitting in a tree hoping a deer wanders by is ambushing and killing, not hunting and killing.

***Actually, sometimes I do. I have become extremely lazy in my middle age. I figure enough mold will grow on the sock eventually to animate it. Evolution works slowly, but I am patient.

While there is certainly no shortage of deer where I grew up, and they are pests and mildly destructive of crops, I have never seen any starving deers down there.

10. I don't like either.
Ok, I do like guns in movies. "Dirty Harry" was awesome. And the train station scene in "The Untouchables" was amazing.

And I do like naked women, so PETA has that going for them.

...let's call the whole thing off.

It's about the animals.

BTW - DU isn't so much pro-gun as pro-choice on guns, IMO.

26. It would be more ineresting if it was true
This OP is serious flamebait, but I'll bite. One and done, though.

Given all the heated discussion that goes on here on almost any topic raised, some people might be surprised to learn that a lot of folks really do choose their battles. I am not pro guns, but I don't believe I've ever posted anything either way on the subject. The reason is I choose my battles. I know this is a subject that generates a lot of heat and very little light. Nobody changes anybody else's mind. If it really gets going, it sometimes really gets ugly. I know of cases of serious cyberstalking, RL stalking, even major property damage. (Some weirdos, assumed to be a minority of gun lovers, seem determined to be as violent as it takes to convince the world guns don't mean violence.) And, to be honest, I just don't find it very interesting. There are a whole bunch of others who feel the same way. Just because we don't get involved in the back and forth on gun control doesn't mean we're not here and doesn't say anything about our stance on the issue.

Same thing with PETA - I am vegan, but not pro PETA. There are others who are not pro PETA and, on the other hand, a number of people who ARE very pro PETA who stay out of the debates for the same reason above.

Yes, I see the contradiction in posting in this thread while saying I'm not interested in the subject. :) I was asked to do so by someone who REALLY doesn't want to go into it and said yes. So sue me.

So it might be correct to say it's an interesting fact that the arguments here are weighted in favor of guns and against PETA, but not the people or the site as a whole.
