Tumulty, Swampland: You Know Who'd Be Good For HHS? Mittens!

I kid you not.

What we know of Barack Obama in situations such as these is that he is willing to make an unconventional choice. Who would have predicted him naming New Hampshire Republican Senator Judd Gregg to be Commerce Secretary, when his pick of Bill Richardson fell through? So I've got an out-of-the-box suggestion that he might consider. My suggested nominee is a proven problem-solver on the health care issue, who has shown that he is willing to invest whatever political capital it takes to get the job done. Someone who has shown that, on this issue, he can work pragmatically across party lines. Someone who has partnered with Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the chairman of the Senate health committee, on a plan. In fact, he's the only person in America who has ever put together and passed a universal health care program.

That man: Mitt Romney.

Yes, let's give the frontrunner for the Republicans in 2012 the perfect platform to campaign against Obama. We've given them Defense and Commerce, why not Health and Human Services and show that only Republicans know how to get the job done in these areas?

Romney 2012: All the Best Parts of the Obama Administration Without All The Liberals.

GREAT idea, Karen. :sarcasm:

2. It's almost funny, how far backwards the Democratic Party is expected to bend.
Who would ever have suggested Bush appoint, say, Kennedy to a cabinet position? When Republicans win by 51%, it's called a mandate, and everyone just assumes that the entire government will be staffed by loyal Republicans. The acceptable range becomes anyone from the center of the Republican Party to it's far-right wing fringe.

When Democrats win, suddenly the political spectrum is expected to run from far right wing to somewhere near the center of the Democratic Party.
