Only a broken Playstation will bring Americans to the streets. Whatdya thinking?

Meanwhile, those "whimpy" frenchies are already turning over cars.

4. The French turn over cars in habit more than anything.
Just kidding.

I love the way the French fight about everything that's important to them.

5. Riots happen where they begin
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 08:09 PM by yodoobo
Its not like everyone gets pissed off, then jumps into the car and somewhere else to one place and start burning and breaking.

And since they occur spontaneously, its going to be in the neighborhoods of the folks who can least afford one.

6. the most thoroughly propagandized people in history
even at the height of Stalin's power most Russians knew they were being BS'd. we don't.

America will put a cornpone fascist like Sarah Palin in the White House before they'll riot, much to the disappointment of the militarized police departments. they're itching to use their shiny new crowd control technologies on us.

8. retail shops always get hit the most
Hence the Rodney King Riots of 92. People will get sick of the haves hording from the have-nots and will try to get even. I got caught in the middle of that in San Francisco. A peaceful demonstration completely went out of control and turned into a smash and grab all down Market street

12. If history is any indication, whoever or whatever is closest.
I wonder if we could start "strategic riot" plans (no, I'm not advocating violence either, but playing mental chess can't hurt).

If we were to move strategically we'd go after corporate offices of banks, hedge funds, credit card companies, insurance companies and find the names and addresses of the most heinous, exploitive and amoral billionares and continue to their fortresses.

Of course, that's just my opinion and riots don't happen strategically but emotionally.

Eh, maybe it's a good theme for a book.

13. Other... I can't say, because it would "encourage illegal behavior."
But I CAN say:

*The Revolution Will Not Be Televised*

You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruptions.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John
Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie
Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
thinner, because the revolution will not be televised, Brother.

There will be no pictures of you and Willie May
pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run,
or trying to slide that color television into a stolen ambulance.
NBC will not be able predict the winner at 8:32
or report from 29 districts.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of Whitney Young being
run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy
Wilkens strolling through Watts in a Red, Black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the proper occasion.

Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville
Junction will no longer be so damned relevant, and
women will not care if Dick finally gets down with
Jane on Search for Tomorrow because Black people
will be in the street looking for a brighter day.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
news and no pictures of hairy armed women
liberationists and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb,
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be right back after a message
about a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a dove in your
bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath.
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat.

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised,
will not be televised, will not be televised.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live.

-- Gill Scott Heron

16. I think any actions may be highly targeted....
...I don't think it's going to be shopkeepers and petty nobility this time. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your view the internet has made it easy for the masses of people to easily identify the proximate cause of the particular outrage that pushes them into action. Think "Bernie Madoff" and the fact he needs guards every bit as much as he needs guarding. If any violence occurs I think it may have an absolute cause and effect correlation. And I think this should cause fear not so much of entire classes as to members of those classes who have most blatantly hurt working class Americans.

18. Sadly, America has no centers of town or they'd have been able to protest.....
Instead, we have sprawl, so there will be riots, and these will take place in the neighborhoods of the hungriest and most helpless.

22. Poor people
are the canary in the coal mine. They will feel the pinch first, and will be the first to react. It won't become a problem until civil disorder spreads to affect the middle class. Rich people usually (but not always) dodge the bullet altogether.

I had a Che Guevara Tee shirt around here somewhere...
