Seriously! How much influence do Bush and Cheney actually have
any more? I have to wonder.

Brooks on Lehrer a couple of Fridays ago said that the Republicans on the hill just hate this administration. They are sick to death of waking up every morning to another scandal.

Bush still has the veto. I don't think Cheney or Bush really have any credibility any more. They have lied and lied and maneuvered and manipulated until no one believes a word they say.

Trouble is we have two more years to go and no president or vice president in the leadership role.

2. Whatever They've Been Able To Dredge Up In Wiretaps, I Guess
In which case, "Publish and be damned" is the only feasible response.

5. Power in the form of trillions of petrodollars... Also, in the 80s, Bush senior...
oversaw the outsourcing of the CIA's covert operations division to the Saudi GID and Pakistani ISA...

6. I think they still have a lot of influence
The Republicans may be grumbling, but they are still voting the way Bush tells them to vote. It doesn't matter so much in the House, but we don't have a super majority in the Senate. The Republicans can block things there plus the Dems can't override a veto (without some defections from the Reps).
