Meanwhile over at Jim Robinson's FreeRepublic....
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 06:38 AM by newyawker99
...the racist, deranged, psychotic descendents of slave holders are holding forth on an article which elaborates on inner-city blacks converting to Islam since 9/11. Warning: This in no way is an easy read and most of the comments would incite at least a riot. That being said, what else can you expect out of any true member of Jim Robinson's FreeRepublic?

Read the thread here and once you do go take a very long shower: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1806400/posts

As an added bonus, read the profile of one 'beckwith,' who elaborates on Barak Obama. Disgusting is the only word that comes to mind about this keyboard warrior: http://www.freerepublic.com/~beckwith/

More blacks converting to Islam since Sept. 11

Pittsburgh among cities to see increase after terror attacks as religious leaders try to paint positive image By Ramit Plushnick-Masti ASSOCIATED PRESS

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Allahu Akbar, the Muslim call for prayer, rings out on a recent Friday and a group of black men and women gather to celebrate the Islamic day of rest.

The wooden house in Pittsburgh's rundown Homewood neighborhood looks like any other on the block. But the sign at the door, Masjid Mumin, and the rows of shoes lined up inside on gray, plastic shelves hint of the brand of Sunni Islam its members practice.

The mosque is one of seven in Pittsburgh, home to a vibrant community of about 8,000 to 10,000 Sunni Muslims -- some 30 percent of them black.

Following what appears to be a trend in cities nationwide, religious leaders in Pittsburgh say there has been a rise in black conversions to Sunni Islam since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

No national surveys have been taken to confirm the increase, but Islamic religious leaders in Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit have also reported growth, said Lawrence Mamiya, a professor of religion and Africana studies at Vassas College in New York. Experts estimate that 30 percent of the 6 million to 7 million Muslims in the United States are black, with only South Asians making up a larger number at 33 percent.

The Sept. 11 attacks have "cut both ways, positively and negatively," Mamiya said.

The dynamic is obvious, another expert said.

That's because they all watched "Roots" and, although it's been some years since the last broadcast, they want to do the heritage thing. I doubt if most people really know what they are getting into when they seek out Islam.

How so? The Dim's were the slaveholders; the Confederates; the segregationists; etc. -- and black folks seem to love them for it.

Maybe there's a message here.

How so?

Educate yourself!

What also amazes me in your post is that you identify a period in the new world's history of slavery exclusively to the period between 1776 and 1864 and the United States of America.

One must remember that not all states were slave states, either.

Slavery existed in the new world since the Spanish introduced it in the 15th century.

3 November 1493:

On his second voyage, Columbus again reaches the New World (modern Dominica). On this voyage he initiates the first transatlantic slave voyage, a shipment of several hundred Taino people sent from Hispaniola to Spain. There are doubts about the legality of their enslavement in Spain.

It's easy to identify a public school education.

Respectfully, please do not exclude that Notherners(Repubs) also owned slaves as well at one time.

Muslim: just another name for a person who walks around, full of hate, mad at the world and a likely terrorist who wants America to fall.

I used to watch Farrakhan on Sunday mornings before church. I now believe that the Nation of Islam does NOT worship allah, but rather civil rights.

It is puzzling, but "Christians" also participated in the slave trade (incidentally, today is supposed to be the two hundredth anniversary of the British abolishing the slave trade in the British Empire).
Furthermore, American slaveowners almost unanimously identified themselves as "Christian."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is American of African descent turning from Christianity unfounded?
Yes.

Can it be seen where it comes from?
Yes.

Not all of African descent do those things.
Look at the vast majority of environmentalists and non-Muslim anti-war activists: they are predominantly of European descent. Are these people representative of all Americans of European descent? Definitely not.

So, are Americans of African descent who are Democrats or have become Muslims representative of all Americans of African descent? Definitely not.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore, some of the condescending attitudes which could be asserting itself on this thread could drive away Americans of African descent from the Republicans.

Absolutely true -- but I don't remember where Jesus said slavery was a good idea -- Mohammed encouraged it ans said it was a good thing. Holds true to this moment.

There's a lot of "Christians" running around today that say homosexuality is a good thing. That doesn't infer that Christianity says it's a good thing.

I love moral relativism (/sarcasm).

Did you know that the NORTHERN State of New Jersey did NOT outlaw slavery until 1846? Did you know that even after that date, a provision was passed that allowed the remaining slaves to be retained as slaves and even sold as personal property. The hypocrisy of the North is evident in redacted and rewritten history.

http://www.slavenorth.com/newjersey.htm

"In 1830, of the 3,568 Northern blacks who remained slaves, more than two-thirds were in New Jersey. The institution was rapidly declining in the 1830s, but not until 1846 was slavery permanently abolished. At the start of the Civil War, New Jersey citizens owned 18 "apprentices for life" (the federal census listed them as "slaves") -- legal slaves by any name.

"New Jersey's emancipation law carefully protected existing property rights. No one lost a single slave, and the right to the services of young Negroes was fully protected. Moreover, the courts ruled that the right was a 'species of property,' transferable 'from one citizen to another like other personal property.'

Thus "New Jersey retained slaveholding without technically remaining a slave state."

Sounds to me like a clintoon wrote that law!

Nation of Gods and Earths/Five Percent FAQ (frequently asked questions)
There were more converting in prison way before 9/11 when I worked at the Metropolitan Opera in the early 90's.

There were what was called 5 Percenters, they were polite young men who mama's rasied them as Chirstians and some how they got involved in this group.

The prisons are filled with 5 percenters and the schools also got to these black children.

"Given the role Muslims played in the slave trade, this always puzzles me."
I also find it curious that black women would accept the subservient role that Islam demands of them since they have always been the strength of the family unit.

It might be that the increase in successful recruitment is happening mostly in prisons. If so, this spells trouble. But, it's no surprise really. Since Jackson, Mfume, Waters, Belafonte, Sharpton, Farakan, Sheila Jackson-Lee and others began self servingly dismantling the message of MLK, blacks have lived without a central identity other than bouncing a basketball as they went from negroes, to soul brothers, to Afros, to African-Americans, to blacks and now gangsta rappper antagonist.

As an outsider observing their community I sense that they would naturally feel abandoned by this country to a degree because they have slavishly conscripted themselves to the democrat party which has let them down for a couple of generations. It seems logical that they would seek some roots, or some central connection. This, of course is a natural recruitment ground for Islam which will begin with belonging and discipline and turn it into resentment and revenge.

They have been promised the moon by pimp politicians who have used them since the 60's and now many of them may be willingly joining another movement that seeks to exploit their numbers and their animosity.

The foregoing is the opinion of this author and does not represent the feelings of American academia or it's sponsors.

Please - consult your purple map. The reddest of the red areas is the Plains States. The South has nearly as much purple as most of the North. We just have fewer large cities to get us over the 49 percent hump.

I know that here, we have no radio talk show that isn't right-wing. None. Zilch. Nada. Even the local guys lean more right than left.

I don't think it's the good people of the South or the mid-West who are simply stupid - I think they don't have time to search out more media than what they hear on their car radio.

They are proudly proclaimin how Republicanism was agains slavery, while totally ignoring the fact that when DEMOCRATS pushed through the Civil Rights Act the South went almost completely Republican.

They also ignore the fact that Southerners used the Bible extensively to justify slavery as a divine institution.

31. Um... no.
I keep hearing that, but, quite honestly, the South didn't vote completely Republican until 1994 - a full 30 years AFTER the Civil Rights movement.

Where do people get these ideas?

The South moved to the "R" column in 1994, but, even still, voted to re-elect Clinton (for the most part) in 1996.

BTW, I'm a Southerner and I don't use the Bible to justify slavery; therefore, your premise is incorrect. "Southerners" don't do that - just SOME fundie-nuts who live here (and in Utah and in New Mexico and in New York and, well, everywhere fundie-nuts reside).

Just this excerpt you posted had me feeling slimy just for reading it - I couldn't bear to open the link to the whole thread.

But as revolting as the post was overall, this last bit -- even after all that -- still had the power to shock and disgust me to a further level:

Since Jackson, Mfume, Waters, Belafonte, Sharpton, Farakan, Sheila Jackson-Lee and others began self servingly dismantling the message of MLK, blacks have lived without a central identity other than bouncing a basketball as they went from negroes, to soul brothers, to Afros, to African-Americans, to blacks and now gangsta rappper antagonist.

That's just revolting, in so many ways...

18. Perhaps this poster/poseur should have a conversation with this man....

COL Stephen Twitty is the commanding officer of 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Cavalry Division. His bio is here: http://pao.hood.army.mil/1stcavdiv/units/4thbde/leadership.htm

I'm sure he identifies completely with "gangsta rappers" as he commands his soldiers in Iraq.

Of course the poster probably is an elite warrior of the 106th Keyboard Division, 11th Wet-My-Pants Brigade, 3rd Yellowbellied Battalion and is camoflouged in this position:

20. More than a few Africans who were captured, brought to
this hemisphere and enslaved were Muslims. But who the hell would expect Freepers to read and learn before they spew their rubbish.

22. Their rubbish is selective and often....
...bullshit. It is the same behavior a four-year old exhibits with the inevitable temper tantrum at the end. Perhaps they need a high seat.

25. Just curious...
Just how many people are signed up with Free Republic? I mean just how many unemployable 47 year old white guys who live in their Mom's basement can there be?

26. Freeperville is such a typhoon of horseshit
bigotry, xenophobic assholism, baldfaced ignorance amd to-the-bone stupidity that words fail me.

These people are allowed to run loose and reproduce?? I guess that's what happens when you don't scrape the scum from the gene pool for a few generations. :scared: :wtf: :yoiks:

27. Did they eat tainted dog food, because their rantings do not make sense.
And it's really telling that they refer to "a black" and "the cause of blacks." Very indicative of their racist stereotypes. If you're not white and liberal, you're not a "credit to your race." :eyes:

Yet, somehow the GOP is still fighting slavery and championing human rights. :wtf: Nevertheless, they condemn Farrakhan because he worships civil rights and is not a Muslim. Although being a Muslim is allegedly bad. And civil rights are good. Except when non-whites use them. Except. . .

Seriously. :wtf:

What the fuck?

35. probably, but since the sentiments expressed
are a lot closer to Byron than Chas, I don't think I shall besmirch Charging Charlie by forcing him to associate with the trash

29. All religions are cesspools.
The brand of religious hate expressed on FreeRepublic is as repulsive as the brand of religious hate preached in Saudi Arabia. A pox on all their houses.

33. The Southern ones are having a hard time in this thread
On the one hand, they come from a long tradition of all that Confederacy crap and resentment toward the North. On the other, you've got this meme about how the Democrats are the party of slave-holders, segregation, etc. All things that freepii, particularly those from under the Mason-Dixon Line secretly, or not-so-secretly, applaud.

So they have to pretend to condemn racism to accuse Dems of it so that they can continue to practice racism comfortably as a Republican, while pretending to applaud Republicans for ushering in the very defeat and reversal of racial policies that they are STILL bitter about to this day.

Their bigoted little heads are exploding and the contents are strewn across that bizarre thread.
